Pimp your favorite *NEW* story hour

Hi all, I'm starting this thread to draw attention to some of the great, new story hours that have sprung up in the last year or so. This thread works in the same manner as all of the other "pimp" threads, with a few exceptions. Here are the rules: 1. You cannot pimp your own story hour. 2...

Metamorphosis: From Dretch to Demon Lord - Ascension Released!

Yeah, I've been sending out release announcements and coupons. I'm sorry, I assumed you were on the list. Do you have the "no vendor mail" option checked at RPGNOW? That's how I compile my mailing list, from past customers. Just shoot me an email and I'll add you. BD

Metamorphosis: From Dretch to Demon Lord - Ascension Released!

Hey guys, I just wanted to point out that the deluxe version of the first book, the one with all the stats, art, and extras, is on sale (along with everything else) for 1.99. So, if you were wondering about all the stats and backgrounds for all the characters, but didn't want to shell out the...

Yeah, that kind of stuff is almost a given. I wouldn't even consider that to be fluff text. It's the people that are trying to include a detailed account of the creator's family lineage going back six generations that are having difficulty with the 200 words. :) The thing that kills me are...

I hear you, but consider the following quote from Clark Peterson, one of the judges for the contest. "I dont want to tell people what to do or not do. And a line or so of flavor is fun. But we asked for wondrous items. Ask yourself: Is there even a single wondrous item in the SRD or DMG that...

Do you like stats with your fiction?

Interesting results. I would have thought that the accuracy of stats wouldn't be as important, but according to the poll so far, people want exact stats or none at all. BD

Best thing to do is write-up your item without any backstory, then if there's still room, go back an add a bit. Although, honestly, if you look at the wondrous items in the DMG, none of them have any backstory or extra fluff. I hit 199 words without a bit of fluff. :D BD

Do you like stats with your fiction?

Option 1 or 2. The stats don't have to be packaged with the novel, but when you do get the stats (from the web site, web enhancement, etc.) how accurate do you want them to be? BD

Do you like stats with your fiction?

I do use a rough outline, but I also like the story to develop organically in some sense. My outline consists of what I generally want to happen in a chapter, but it doesn't cover the blow-by-blow parts of combat, where stat issues are more likely to occur. Bu as I said, I'm managing with the...

Do you like stats with your fiction?

The sonnet analogy is a good one. Although, I like to think it's more like a sestina or a villanelle; there's a definite structure to follow, but the poet has a bit more leeway with the meter. :) BD

Do you like stats with your fiction?

Unfortunately, the novellas are being released as I write them, so I have to do stats for each one. But your suggestion is exactly what I would do if I had my choice. BD

Do you like stats with your fiction?

That certainly could work with charcters that actually have indentifiable levels; however, stats become more of a problem when you are dealing with powerful entities, like unique outsiders and gods. By the way, I do enjoy statting up the characters for my fiction, I just don't like having to...

Do you like stats with your fiction?

This is just a quick poll for readers of RPG-related fiction. Do you like knowing the nuts and bolts stats of the main characters in the fiction you read? Personally, as a reader, I love them, but as a writer...their kind of a pain in the ass. :) Here's the issue from an author's...

This is very cool. The eligibility rules are a little fuzzy, though. I've never appeared on the cover of a "hardback" RPG book, but I work full time as an RPG writer/designer/editor. I guess I'll just have to ask if I'm eligible. I hope so, this looks like a hell of a lot of fun. BD

    How to get into publishing

That's good advice; in fact, it's how I got started. Posting your creations on a messageboard like EN World can let publishers see your work with no risk. And what's better, if you're work is well received, then often times, the publishers will come to you. ;) BD

Successful Story Hours - a simple analysis (raised from the thread)

Sure, how "good" a story hour might be is entirely subjective; however, this formula does show which story hours are being read on a regular basis. As i said eariler, what we can see is that story hours in general are being read more, and that should be encouraging to any story hour author. But...

Metamorphosis: From Dretch to Demon Lord - Ascension Released!

Daemon preview Hey all, here's another little preview of the second book. This one's a bit meatier, however. Since daemons are a major part of books two and three, I've had to get a bit creative since yugo..I mean daemons are not OGL. =] So, Ive created a number of daemonic races from whole...

Successful Story Hours - a simple analysis (raised from the thread)

Here's another interesting little tidbit about the results. In the original post, the top 10 authors were receiving an average of 39 views per post (excluding P-Kitty's monstrous score), now the top 10 are receiving almost 70 views per post. To me, this says that people are reading story hours a...

Successful Story Hours - a simple analysis (raised from the thread)

Resurrected I stumbled across this old thread while I was searching for something else, and I thought it would be cool to see how things have changed since the initial post. For those of you new to the thread, the OP formulates the "success" of a story hour based on the number of views devided...
