I like to run short or mini-campaigns. Which to me is a single group going from 1st to 15th (ish) in less than a year of real time. It works for our group. The other two DMs do this also for the most part.

I love when somebody writes my response for me ;). I try to be the facilitator as much as possible but I think you have to be a bit adversarial to play the game.

Glad to see you are back at it. Once again these are great. I love pulling out an illustration to show my players.

Well I like what you did but I agree with another poster that I don't get a very "mappy" feel for it.

This is exactly why we do it. It lets us branch out and try some things that would never have been done by RAW.

If we get in 4 sessions in a month then we level about once a month. Normally we game 3 of the 4 weeks in a month so level just a bit slower.

Exactly what we do now.

About once every 4 three-hour session.

5 foot squares for all dungeon/indoor maps and outdoor battle areas. Nothing on normal outdoor maps but a scale.

I affixed dry erase board (got it at Lowes) to the top of a sheet of 1 inch plywood. Works great for a table. All short term notes and tracking buffs, HPs etc is easy to do on it. I then made another small table (3x3) about 11 inches tall also of dry erase but I use my Tact-tiles on it. It has...

A friend of mine introduced me to Gamma World. After playing I said that was fun but is there a "Lord of the Rings" type version of it? Having just read the books. He said sure and told me about D&D and I went to a bookstore and found the Red Box. I have been a D&D geek since ;)

Well rolling every round is chaotic ;) I want to go to once an encounter to see if the players make better use of delays and readys which we really don't use now. I know this is gonna go against the grain for my group to start since we have never done it this way but I am interested in seeing...

Since 3E came out my group has used the "Roll Initiative every round" type of play. In my next campaign I am thinking of going to "Roll once an encounter". So what differences will I notice and how will it change my game? What do you do?

I still do a lot of prep work to start a campaign but once I have started I find I am doing less before each gaming session.
