A bottleneck puzzle/trap/gate that for some reason the party can't figure out and basically say screw it and go another way (usually away from your planned session). Summon thoqqua as stated earlier. So much for trying to get the PCs to go a certain way. Who put that on the summon list anyway?

Do a bit of both based on the characters personality. Mostly bright and loud though.

Kinda in the middle but I voted abstract. As a DM I just say "The creatures are in this area" and place the minis there. Sometimes my players get very literal on their placements but not too often. Mostly comes up when an area of effect spell is cast. ;)

We use Action Points ala Eberron and have never had a problem nor have they seemed overly powerful. Now when we feel we are getting close to leveling they might get used a little more often. ;)

I voted yes. Something cool every level is fine as long as it doesnt break the game. We are playing a campaign now where we get a feat every level. Seems to be fine and no one is complaining about a dead level.

Yes I would. I believe it is more fun to find/take stuff than to purchase it. I am playing in an Eberron campaign now where we are on an expedition to Xendrik and aren't coming back for a while. Money is of no value this whole campaign. Survival is. It is been great so far.

Once as a DM I did not include looking up at the ceiling as part of the Spot check. I will never do that again. My players about killed me. Now all Spot checks include the ceiling.

In that situation I would go with the -5 HP route. I would hate to give the smackdown to a newbie in their first session. Heck it takes so long to make another character for someone new that alone might be discouraging enough to keep them from gaming again.

Up until 3E I only DMed. No one else would. Now my group has two others who DM so I get to play once in a while. It is a great setup now.

Ever since I started playing I have been the DM. As of two weeks ago I wrapped up the last running game I had going and I am playing in two other games that members of my gaming group are running. I imagine I will DM again in a few months but right now I am gonna enjoy the break and play awhile.

As a player I would rather make a new character. But since I mostly DM I know that would be a pain for DM. The biggest problem I see is gaining XP thru adventuring. If that is the style of the game. What I mean is if the new character joins a fight the rest of the party is in he will be...

The campaigns I DM pretty much end around 10th level. The only exception is the Eberron one we just wrapped up ending at 20th. The games I play in fizzle about levels 6-8. Not sure why. It is the same group of people.

Never played in a game where Prcs weren't allowed. But since 3E came out we have had only one (Hunter of Dead) ever tried. My group just doesn't pick to go the Prc route. In the Eberron game we just started my wife is going towards Arcane Archer. We will see if she sticks to the plan ;)
