    Computers at the gaming table

    I use one as a DM for SRD access and to use some PDFs. I would allow them but no one has ever wanted to bring one. For players I would not allow Internet access though. Just whatever is D&D related on their hard drive.

    Away from the table I use Excel to run all kinds of random generators. I also live and die by Heroforge which runs on Excel (though I wish it ran on Open Office). I use Word, NoteTab and Foxit for note-taking and reading pdfs. I do use E-tools and Dunjinni when I have lots of time. At the table...

    Is the "official D&D product" really that big a deal?

    95% of my purchases are WoTC. I don't really go out of my way to not buy 3rd Party stuff. When it comes time to buy a book there is always a Wizards book on my to-buy list so I get it. Once in a while I catch up with my book buying and will get a third party book I have wanted.

    I completely agree. The DI is THE big news for quite some time and Wizards will ride that love/hate wave for a while before mentioning 4th Edition.

    I do now. I tried to handwave XP and just level up when I felt the characters needed to level. It just didn't fit my style.
