The problem with making it a variable is the times you end up rolling two 1's at 1st level, it takes you 3 rounds to heal 3hp of damage. True 2d6 is better than say 1d10 or 1d12, but still not particularly a fun chance to take. I would say something like 5 + 1d6 + level (maximum 15) would be...

What would be a balanced change to the spells themselves that would put them in the range you are suggesting Rystil?

I'll pose it this way then, does it become subject to abuse if we allow metamagic feats to break such supposed maximums? Does an 18th level wizard having 12 mirror images rather than a maximum of 8 cause distress in you? It doesn't cause me any distress. You can also look at the math this way...

Bold mine. It does not say deals Xd6 damage where X equals caster level or 10 (whichever is less), but has a maximum of 10d6. From False Life, 1d10 + 1 per caster level with a maximum of +10. However, empowered it gives (1d10+1 per caster level) * 1.5. From Mirror Image, creates 1d4 images...

Other than what the FAQ says, I'd prefer to let extend spell affect them, just like I'd let Empower Spell affect Mirror Image and go over the max. You do need a feat to do it, and up the level of the spell.

"Have it all set then?" the tiny elf inquires.

    Darkness Under Cold Stones

I'll put a foot down here... Sorry I missed your birthday been a mite busy these days. So happy birthday! My idea is a druid of the hunt and harvest, perhaps using the alternate ability from the PHBII that gives them the predatory form and such rather than wild shape and a companion, although...

    Heroes of Horror: Archivist

You can find the archivist here in the Excerpt from Heroes of Horror on the Wizards site. I say the class is perfect for the Eberron setting.

Seconded... man I wish that actually had weight behind it. ;)

A Pirates Life (Swashbuckler base class and Dread Pirate PrC)

Swashbuckler is a bit bland at all levels I find. Looking at Rystil's gestalt version I'd keep the 6 skill points a level, drop the HD to a d8 (like ranger) add Disguise, Intimidate, Knowledge (nobility & royalty), Ride and Sleight of Hand to the normal swashbuckler skill list. Change the...

Actually... it should be only 44hp (11hp per spell, twice per day per wand).

    Custom Spells (Revised 7-18-2006)

A wizard with a 16 Con base, items and a Fort familiar is a wizard built for a strong Fort save. Just because undead have particular vulnerabilities to very specific things doesn't mean those things should be changed to compensate for the undeads vulnerabilities.

Oops... even went to the SRD and read over the Undead type and missed that for once. Although I think Control Body takes precidence as it specifically calls out undead as being able to be affected by it.

I like the Vigor line of spells, although some people will argue that they are more powerful than the cure line of spells, they have differing uses. Cure line of spells = all the healing quickly at once (can often be swapped for spontaneously by a cleric) Vigor line of spells = healing slowly...

    Custom Spells (Revised 7-18-2006)

I'm not saying that Undead aren't vulnerable to such a spell, but it's not like wizards in general aren't vulnerable to Fortitude saves even at high level. Just because its their weakness doesn't mean there shouldn't be things that target that weakness, particularly when it can be overcome in...

    Custom Spells (Revised 7-18-2006)

The Resistance line of spells (from SC if we approve them can give up to a +6 bonus), protection from spells (+8 resistance bonus to saves vs. spells), a +5 cloak or vest (if approved from CA or just made by an artificer), a couple levels of higher fort save classes, a couple levels of...

A 20th level Lich with a total +6 to Fort saves and no other bonuses is a sore excuse for a Lich.
