Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Some people are lumpers, some people are splitters, some people see those approaches as both being useful and both being wrong.

Most of those divides--and the earlier ones you were responding to--have a lot of middle ground, IME, that thinking of them as "divides" tends to exclude.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I think it's easy--especially if one doesn't watch much of it--to see it as just that. The jokes are (at least almost) always at the expense of the idiots, which does argue against it being a celebration of stupidity, but noticing that requires more attention than one might want to give.

What are you reading in 2025?

I don't normally do anything different, reading wise, for "spooky season," but I have me some Stephen Graham Jones I could read, and that might serve as a motivation/excuse. Trilogies always feel like a commitment, even when I can just read them through.

What are you reading in 2025?

If you want an examination of how Spotify is evil: Mood Machine by Liz Pelly. If you want a slightly-credulous take on orientalism and mysticism in the first half of the 20th century: Holy Men of the Electronic Age by Raphael Cormack. I know you said "no true crime" but Murderland by Caroline...

The srrawmanning might have been a matter of ignorance, but I see the Bad Faith Brigade has arrived. Never mind.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

While I stand by my position that everyone at a given table should take the game they're playing roughly equally seriously, I don't disagree with your point, here.

I haven't seen that sort of increase from the local roaster where I get my coffee beans. Yet. I expect it'll hurt when they start having to cover new shipments and the tariffs thereon.

It's possible to sincerely apologize for, say, hurting someone's feelings, while also refusing to recant the core of what you said. This is a very narrow strait to navigate, without question.

What are you reading in 2025?

I personally thought The World We Make was a satisfactory Book Two, and that it resolved the few pending things from The City We Became more than well enough to be worth reading. Of course, I read both books over the course of a weekend, so there's that.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I expect that thread's going to be about as useful as the other forty-nine million times the topic's been discussed here, it'll be a battle between the people with a uselessly narrow definition and the people with a uselessly broad one. Y'all have fun.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

The last time I worked retail, the store manager/s got in more trouble for inventory loss than for anything else--including inventory gain. They had no incentive to mark expensive things as gone. EDIT: Also, anyone who's worked retail for any length of time knows that an inventory listing of 1...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Ledo Pizza is very much its own thing, and its thing is very much a Maryland (or at least mid-Atlantic) thing. That's not to say anyone's wrong for (not) liking it, just that if you didn't grow up eating that kind of pizza, at least occasionally, it's probably kinda alien to you.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I think backstories for level 1 characters can be fine, so long as the players realize they're writing backstories for level 1 characters. These days I tend to give the players some details about where things are starting off, and ask them for people or things their characters are connected...
