Is the barbarian too powerful in your campaign?

The hobbit berserker in my True20 game is far and away the most deadly character in melee combat, but the other characters hold their own and shine in different ways. Everyone's kill count and spotlight time is somewhat similar. In my last d20 game, the gnome barbarian did outdamage the rogue...

Do you like stat-bonus magic items?

Stat items don't bother me. Just part of the game. I guess I'd maybe like a system where a person could gain stat boosts permanently instead of using the items, and then have less items that were each more interesting, but, I don't have a good fix for it. I like Piratecat's method, but yikes...

Non Hit Point Based Fantasy RPG?

It does? I remember a vitality and wound point system, but nothing that removed hit points entirely. Am I missing something?

    What To Do with Player?

Kill the character, let the guy know that his character didn't fit the group and was evil and that you're looking to play a heroic game. If he's not interested in playing then that's cool, but if he is let him roll up someone new.

Non Hit Point Based Fantasy RPG?

True20 handles this through making damage values for weapons static. I recommend it.

How much do effort do you put into character assumption?

I voted a 4. Somewhat often in a game, I'll just stop and say -- wait, my character wouldn't go along with that. Help me figure out a plausible reason my character is going with you all and not stopping the game. (Of course, there are times I'll have my character say "that's a bad idea" or...

    Cthulhu Points Pool Question

House rule, for sure. And yeah... that's a very un-Cthulhu rule, in my opinion. :)

What are your thought on the Mystic Theurge?

I had one in my game, we played level 1-8. He was a tiny bit weak in combat compared to the barbarian and the ranger, as being a wizard3/cleric3 is not great, but, yes. If your DM has outruled this, he hasn't really thought it through. I had the same gut reaction when I read it.

Would you use or allow average damage to speed up gameplay?

I'm currently running True20... so, I guess I'm alright with static damage. Calling 1d6 and 2d6 is funny though. It applies to monsters too, right? It overvalues special abilities on weapons. (Which isn't a big deal, of course.)

Total Newbie: Tell Me About Magic: The Gathering

I'd like to echo going with the latest core set, 9th edition. I'd recommend you and your wife grabbing a couple (or more) friends who also haven't played the game much, and trying a booster draft after everyone has played around for a few days -- it's quite a bit of fun. In booster drafts...

    What's your screen name from?

Might and Magic 2, a paladin.

    Flaws in your game

My main flaw is that I have a really hard time staying in-character without cracking jokes. Intense roleplaying makes me a little nervous and I'll draw myself out of it time and time again. This especially hurts the game when I'm DM'ing.

Is this fair? - confessions of a killer DM

Sounds brutal. Doesn't sound like you're trying to punish them or any other silliness, and it sounds like fun. Fair by me!

    Best system for horror... Thoughts?

World of Darkness (the new rules,) or Call of Cthulhu. Echo echo etc.

"Roleplayed" - My new Short Film! Weeeee!

I liked it. The incest stuff was really pretty funny, in my opinion. This isn't spam. I think I'd like it better without the, ah, turn at the end. The rest alone would stand... albeit, I'm not sure what it would stand for.

Your favorite gaming discussion topic on this message board?

I'm still a sucker for paladin threads.

Help me make a small town with a bit of Planescape feel

...I really like the plot hook. Neat way to open up into an epic plot. ...and I can't think of any good NPCs for the town. Doh.

Should Campaign Settings include a metaplot?

Nailed it. I really liked White Wolf's second editions of stuff, but the metaplot junk was horrible. Shadowrun's metaplot is... ok. I could certainly do without it.

Why saving throws? Why doesn't the attacker roll to beat your score?

A friend of mine made a system where you only roll for defense against an attacker's static score. I tried explaining "but I want to roll to hit things, not dodge stuff!" but he didn't ever really get it... Oddly enough you still roll your attack roll for shooting a bow in his system. Oh...

Any advice on running a low-magic-item campaign?

True20, do it. Low magic D&D is very hard to make work, and though there are a few success stories, there are a lot more horror stories from people who meant well but ended up running games that weren't fun.
