What other games have influenced your D&D campaigns?

The Morag Tong (sp?), the lawful assassin's guild, certainly has played a big role. I used to sneak bits and pieces of Vampire the Masquerade into D&D every once in awhile too. I tend to steal more from children's fantasy books more than I steal from other games for D&D, though. Patricia...

Is There Much Age Difference In Your RPGing Group?

I voted no, although my group goes from 19-32. There's no apparent generation gap, though.

Best Class for a new player

Not wizard, not cleric, not druid, not monk, not bard... and not fighter, in my opinion. Barbarian, Ranger, Paladin (although I didn't vote for it, people's posts did convince me,) Sorceror, and Rogue would be good starts. If they want to generate the character themselves (which would be a...

    D&D needs improvement

Wait a second... why DOESN'T initiative use wisdom? It would make the stat more useful. Then again, high level clerics instead of high level rogues would always go first... and rogues need to go first more than a cleric does. Hrm, oh well. Good idea in theory though. Oh, and yeah. Go play...

How important is Music in your games?

Music -- sure, although I don't like having to mess with it while I dm... so I just made a CD for the game and turn it down. Sound effects -- no. I'd much rather just have sounds described to me, or describe sounds as a DM -- using sound effects feels cheap and tinny to me.

    Aeon (updated 10/9/14)

    Most excellent. :)

    Am I dead yet ?

Ask him if it's a mechanics problem or a concept problem. If he likes the concept but feels like his character is weak, you could let him rebuild it. I think there are options for this in the PHBII, although I haven't read them. You could just let him rebuild it from scratch anyway. If he...

    Standing and fighting

Heck, when I run a serious game now, I give less experience for combat than successfully avoiding combat... but I still have had people "Stand and fight" when they very easily could have simply ran away and hid. Sometimes, you just want to kill stuff -- and in D&D, sometimes you're used to the...

Do RPGs' Wargaming Aspects Overshadow RPing?

Inhibit just means slow down... so sure... I think roleplaying is inhibited when you're trying to figure out whether or not you're about to provoke an attack of opportunity with what you're doing in a grapple. It doesn't mean it doesn't happen -- it just means it happens less... hence it's...

    Aeon (updated 10/9/14)

Excellent, as always. :) Where's Nehael? It sounds like she is active... sort of? And yeah, it's sad to see Titivilus go... and the death of Murmuur was terribly interesting. "We are forever lost, Ahma. Do you not yet understand?"

Oh man, the Tome of Gnome would be GREAT! :D

What if your players had an innate knowledge of your setting?

I really wouldn't like this -- kills my suspension of disbelief. I'm not fond of fantasy games in real-world settings... as you say, too much baggage. Well, Changeling is fun. But it's a little different.

How to PCs carry all their stuff?

Totally. My players carry their loot "abstractly." I pay attention to encumberance if stuff is getting silly, or on the low-str characters, otherwise, blah. Maybe it's on a pack mule or something. If a person wanted to have the level of detail as to what stuff was in which bag, that would be...

Proper Pronunciation of all D&D words!

My group pronounces "coup de grace" as "koop duh gracie" (the last word is higher pitched.) I'm happy with it!

    CN archetypes

Bah, they've got you suckered in too. Every cat is chaotic evil. If it's "nice," it MIGHT have neutral tendencies. That's neutral on the lawful scale, by the way. :D

    Oots #313

Personally, I like this part better. :) I was always a sucker for some happy downtime in a story. It's fun to see the characters when they AREN'T stressing out.

    Mechanics vs. Flavor text

I very much like characters creating the way that their spell looks and describing it upon casting. A wave of tiny darts, a swarm of bees, or five little glowing balls are all little differences between casters that can make magic missile a bit more interesting. It's hardly necessary, though...

    Community Supporter problem

Hey I got a community supporter account just recently and... just wanted to say thanks for the extra time for the reactivation date. Just a week or two for me, but still that's nice.

What are your player traits and incentives? (from DMG II)

I think I'm far more interested in what DOESN'T motivate me... I should make that poll! I'm all about accumulating powers, story, kicking butt, psychodrama, irresponsibility, and somewhat playing a favorite role. I'm not about supercoolness, exploring, or brilliant planning in any way shape or...

High Level NPC Class characters: What's your take on them?

Personally, I don't use NPC classes for important NPC's. If you want to keep that power gap, well, you'll run into the snag you have. I'd rather have a farmer who is tough in a scrap have a level or two of rogue or fighter, even if they make a bit less sense, than the six or so levels of...
