Just sharing Jedi Mind Trick lots of fun

I'm not sure why everyone is attacking this -- it sounds rather fun. I'd try it myself, except my bard has perform (chanting in infernal) ... people*might* be a *liiittle* more prone to notice. :) Sounds cool though. Fits the character. And yeah, if he ever gets caught -- fun!

DMs: Fight to Win or Fight for Fun?

I'm not sure what I'd have done, it depends on some missing info. I know for sure I'd say something to the other PCs that the ghoul was gonna CDG next time around -- unless the ghoul was feigning that it wouldn't, but CDG is a full round action that takes some time to line up as the theory...

DarkMatter D20: Drunk Southern Girls with Guns ... UPDATED - 8/18/05!

Ahh, glad to see this one coming back. Great stuff.

What to do when play styles don't mesh

Talk to them, when it doesn't work, split the group. I've been through quite a few groups with player types that didn't get along that well, it never really ended with anything besides a player split. YMMV, but it doesn't sound like it will, from the likes of the people you're dealing with.

    Clerics with no gods

I really favor the idea of clerics (and paladins for that matter) who are granted their powers via their faith in a philosophy, rather than a deity. My last big D&D game had no deities, only philosophy clerics -- gods simply didn't exist. I really preferred that approach. And yes, a PC was a...

If you were to add rolling for damage to True20...

This would just add a roll to the system, but... Have some roll a set of dice that equals the average of their damage bonus. IE, +2 = 1d3, +3 = 1d5 (heh,) +4 = 1d7, +5 = 1d9... well, you can see the problem. but, you could always round down... or if you're fond of more lethal, round up. so...

    Comfort level with circumstance modifiers

This is spot-on, I think. Hard to do in the dark, -2, extra hard to do in the dark because it relies on acute vision specifically, another -2. Done. If I was DM'ing, it'd be somewhere between a -2 and a -5, basically depending on my mood, to be honest. Primarily, NPCs must be held to the...

    D&D and AD&D - 10 Players?

What exactly did the party caller do?

    What's "rules light" to you?

Generally, I'd say "Rules Lite" is something which is self-defined as being more rules lite than D&D, or another system. Or something where you can easily completely generate -your statistics- in small amounts of time. The equal generation process between rules lite and rules heavy might mean...

Is Your Setting Pretty Much Earth?

My favorite world, Dream Not-Dream, had no sky, no bodies of water, no visible light sources, and no coherent sense of geography -- each locale was connected to each other locale through walking a certain way, and distance travelled and time spent were not relevant. When the characters dreamed...

Looking for an excel worksheet for character personality/appearance/quirks

I was fond of that specific list of appearances, quirks, and personality adjectives. If you're aware of a list that's more robust that what that one provides, I'd be happy to take a look at it. Also, I'm already marginally proficient with Excel, and I didn't have much luck with TableSmith, and...

Looking for an excel worksheet for character personality/appearance/quirks

That's the one! Thank you very much, devilish, you've made my NPC and PC creating lifestyle a whole lot happier! :)

Looking for an excel worksheet for character personality/appearance/quirks

Someone named "agrannimayu" or something... like... that... Had a little sheet that you could roll some d20's on, and it would give you an appearance, and a personality. The personality table was roll a d20, then roll another d20, to pick from a list of 400 adjectives. It was pretty...

Help me come up with a character concept!

Try a half-orc fighter 5 who relies on his smarts as much as his big axe. Try an ex-paladin2/rogue3 who felt that the path of his church wasn't effective enough, and is on his way to becoming an assassin. (You might need to ask if you can waive the "must be evil" requirement -- or, you might...

    Aeon (updated 10/9/14)

Very excellent to see you writing again, Sep -- and I'm also pleased with the format -- you get to both start up where the game currently is -- or, well, closer! -- but still retain your style. Terribly glad you're planning on doing brief but common updating, and I hope it makes you happier to...

    What are your "Group Rules"?

Two players must be present to play. If someone is missing, the game either continues as normal with that character absent, or alternatively we play a goofy side-game. Food is generally accomplished by a food run, people pay for themselves. That's about it, I guess. Certainly "the game is...

    ....and the DM just gaped

Lessee... 3.0 rules. Party stumbles on a younger black dragon's territory in the middle of Phaerimm underground territory based on flight, where they were trying to get the McGuffin. The dragon has a pretty sizable horde, but isn't sure he can take the party, so he just tries to scare them off...

    Round III is OVER

Spell Mastery. Sure, it's remotely useful... in theory... but it's almost always, unless you're playing a weird campaign where you get captured/stripped a lot, completely useless.

What's your single favorite D&D creature?

The Caller in the Darkness, from the PsiHB. Goood stuff. I guess I've got a soft spot for Machin Shin. I've also got some soft spots for the Tarrasque, illithids, vampires, succubi, and angels. And gnomes... oh!! Can't go wrong with a cult of fiendish frogs that lead you into their swampy...
