    D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk: Pitching the Reboot

    That would be OK.

    Hommlet is an outlier.

    D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk: Pitching the Reboot

My point is Rufus is an outlier. As in not relevant to the demographics of the setting.

    D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk: Pitching the Reboot

Fair, I suppose. As for why it persists: Forgotten Realms is the only D&D setting most players and multimedia consumers have seen. They think NOT having magic for mundane uses and Elminster popping by is odd! “Elminster’s not around, so why not?” - Gale, BG3

    D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk: Pitching the Reboot

“Hanging around” isn’t how I’d characterize it. It’s not like they’re rando bar patrons. Rufus & Burne own the Tower of Hommlett and are there looking after a critically important site of supposedly looked in evil.

    D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk: Pitching the Reboot

I’d add them in W, S, or central Oerik. Or as a reboot of the New Empyrea continent that’s only marginally Greyhawk. Or just a new continent. Their existence is mentioned, but nothing is known about them. Greyhawk abounds with the unknown and unexplored. HERE THERE BE DRAGONS!

D&D General 5.5 and making the game easier for players and harder for DMs

One of my current 3.5e campaigns has been going on since 1998 (originally AD&D 1e), the other since 2018. Both were rolled stats. The 5e group I play in with stat buy goes back to 2000, with the current campaign like 2 years old. Summary: I prefer rolled stats. You refuse anything but stat...

Double message due to weird network stuff.

Keep on the Borderland and no healing...?

I disagree. I frame it as dungeon delving is truly dangerous. Your characters are shipping out to fantasy war, and one hit could kill them. So better fight clever, fight hard, and stick together. Retreat and live to fight another day, and deal with the clever enemies dynamically evolving...

Keep on the Borderland and no healing...?

John Rateliff’s Return to the Keep on the Borderlands (Silver Anniversary) is my favorite adventure. I ran it in 1998 and I don’t remember what of it was his versus mine, but great stuff. Two war stories from 1998: Eventually the Temple and their allies and undead attacked the Keep. We...

Keep on the Borderland and no healing...?

A grizzled old veteran - lone survivor of a previous party long ago - could advise them from the tavern, with your advice.

Keep on the Borderland and no healing...?

Also, just because they don’t have portable healing - potions and scrolls - doesn’t mean clerics and druids in the Keep can’t heal PC’s. PC’s may need to hike back to heal after a fight. Which could mean changes at the Caves of Chaos the next day.

D&D General 5.5 and making the game easier for players and harder for DMs

And Gary was from Wisconsin, so Grognards prefer brats. And Kringle. But probably not at the same sitting.

D&D General 5.5 and making the game easier for players and harder for DMs

I don’t notice people saying that. I think more often people are like me - “meh” on the monoculture that is 5e - it’s OK, we’ll play but I prefer something else. Actively think 5e is the worst isn’t a common opinion I’ve noticed.

This post is insufficient. People also like to argue. :p

D&D General 5.5 and making the game easier for players and harder for DMs

It’s interesting. I had a player in my email game say this weekend they couldn’t do anything against a monster that they figured (correctly) has damage resistance magic, since they have no magic weapons. I told them about a half dozen things they could do, and suddenly they’re back in the...

Yup, that’s pretty typical. It’s fun if somebody rolls an 18.

D&D General 5.5 and making the game easier for players and harder for DMs

Balance in ability scores doesn’t matter to me or my players/I prefer rolled because … It’s not a competition between players or characters, but a team sport. Do you resent sports or work teammates if they are good at what they do? Or better than you? Then why be jealous in D&D? Random seems...
