D&D General D&D Editions: Anybody Else Feel Like They Don't Fit In?

Trying to talk someone else into DMing is harder than finding players if you want to DM, in my experience.

D&D General When did you leave D&D? Why? For what game? And what brought you back?

Me too! 3.5e, with E6 and Core Rules type limitations, seems to me like the final and best iteration of AD&D. Fascinating seeing all the journeys into and out of D&D.

D&D General D&D Editions: Anybody Else Feel Like They Don't Fit In?

Thanks so much for explaining. I just discovered this thread. Seems like what I have been informally doing, by just limiting levels, but with a design that doesn’t just stop. E9 might work for me. https://www.enworld.org/threads/e6-the-game-inside-d-d.206323/

D&D General D&D Editions: Anybody Else Feel Like They Don't Fit In?

Unlimited cantrips is annoying and breaks the feel for me. Seems like the trend is to make PC’s more powerful as a marketing tactic. Hmm, I resemble that in the 3.5e campaigns I DM. If by non-gamers, you mean non-RPG players. Campaign #1 Players who’ve played 5e and decided they prefer...

D&D General D&D Editions: Anybody Else Feel Like They Don't Fit In?

What’s E6? Seems like the solution to “high level 3e is too high powered” is stop at the highest level you’re comfortable with. For me, that’s somewhere a bit above “name level” (~9th) in AD&D 1e terms. As for everyone seems to want to only play 5e, there are many dissenters playing other...

    D&D 5E (2024) Check Out The New Dungeon Master's Guide's Greyhawk Map

Yes, I have all that too. I’ve used Marklands for Furyondy, with substantial modifications, like no Flare Line. I do have Wars in my now 589 CY campaigns, but not FtA’s Wars. Bissel was invaded but did not fall, in “The War of the Lanthorn” caused by PC’s doing the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth...

D&D General D&D Editions: Anybody Else Feel Like They Don't Fit In?

Me too. Sounds like we have similar tastes The solution that works for me is: 3.5e Core rules. PHB, DMG, and monster books. Anything else needs DM approval. A house rule is a Ranger variant without spellcasting and with favored terrain (from PF1) rather than favored enemy Greyhawk setting...

    D&D 5E (2024) Check Out The New Dungeon Master's Guide's Greyhawk Map

Greyhawk Wars don’t make sense to many Greyhawk fans, including myself.

D&D General The Greyhawk Pantheon: How Greyhawk Approaches Deities (& Demigods)

Exactly! That why it’s the Snow Barbarians etc., not the North Kingdom of Schnai etc. To Pluffett and his audience, he called them what other folks around him called them. Germany, not Deutschland. Each time someone messes with Greyhawk, another aspect of it is revealed.

D&D General A Rose By Any Other Name: Names in Greyhawk and a Little Judgin'

It’s retcon named after Erik Mona of Living Greyhawk Gazetteer and PaizoHawk, I say.

D&D General A Rose By Any Other Name: Names in Greyhawk and a Little Judgin'

I heard the story that Keoghtom’s Ointment is named after Tom Keough because it cures any disease or injury and Tom Keogh died young. A little wish fulfillment belongs in every D&D campaign.

D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk- New Map, Discussion of Changes

You know, the City of London is to this day nicknamed “the Square Mile”. Medieval cities were not sprawling places.

D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk- New Map, Discussion of Changes

Definitely in my campaign, but I will keep it Blackmoor.

D&D General Forgive my blasphemy: downplaying the Grayhawk gods

My set up: Greyhawk Gods are the Oeridian pantheon, including some cults adopted from other cultures like Rao from the Flannae and Xan-Yae from the Baklunish. Baklunish religion is the Greek pantheon (as expressed in Deities & Demigods) plus specifically Baklunish Greyhawk gods, like Geshtai...

D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk- New Map, Discussion of Changes

As long as Arn has a Comeback Inn, I guess it’s acceptable.

D&D General Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, and Canon: Stare Decisis in D&D

I don’t think anyone in Greyhawk fandom rejects the 576 CY Gold Box setting. It may be the past or the present, but it was true at the time, at least from its in-character author’s POV. Greyhawk Wars is where the fandom splits, so rolling back before that board game makes sense. I’m a fan of...

D&D General Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, and Canon: Stare Decisis in D&D

Because Greyhawk has been out of print yet played so long, fan and 3rd party contributions are an important part of many Greyhawk campaigns. For example, for many people, Melkot, though fanmade, is canon because it’s on the Anna Meyers maps. Which are also fan made, but super popular -...

D&D General Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, and Canon: Stare Decisis in D&D

For what it’s worth, my campaigns are Greyhawk 576 CY plus all the Greyhawk campaigns I have been involved in. Lots of retired PC’s turned NPC. some but not all of 3e’s Living Greyhawk Gazetteer and PaizoHawk from 2e era, mostly just the Marklands and Ivid the Undying magpied materials from...

D&D General Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, and Canon: Stare Decisis in D&D

Snarf Zagyg, you are my favorite Rules Lawyer. I just realized that oddly, no one in my games is an attorney. Corpos, medical, and tech are overrepresented, and I’m psyched that a friend who now runs his family farm wants to play again (it’s all remote), but nope, no attorneys.
