D&D General Keep on the Borderlands - How do you run the Wilderness?

I most recently ran parts of Goodman Games OAR “Into the Borderlands”. It’s awesome. For the Keep itself, I like the 2e era masterpiece by John D. Rateliff - “Return to the Keep on the Borderlands”. I also checked out “Little Keep on the Borderlands” from the Knights of the Dinner Table...

TSR Tell me about I7 - Baltron's Beacon

I bought the PDF and read it, but never played it. I remember it has a set of pregens that look pretty good.

    Ship-based adventures

I’ll add another plug for the “Savage Tides” in Dungeon Magazine. I would pair it with either U123 or the republished version “Ghosts of Saltmarsh” to start, and have “Wake of the Sea Wyvern” - an awesome sailing adventure of exploration - as the start of “Savage Tides”. And then maybe go to...

D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

“There is another”. Larian could do “generic D&D” with Tales of the Valiant, Pathfinder, etc. Midgard and Golarion are good settings.

D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

Heh. I defeated her fair and square - a single run (no retries) from entering her final traps area to rescuing the prisoner to taking her down. The whole Auntie Ethel set up annoyed me so much, I killed the victim guy outside with the mirror who wouldn’t be quiet when I was trying to figure...

Congrats for starting later. With so many fixes over the months, it’ll be interesting if the game is even better for you.

D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

Yes, the Flind Gnolls fight I had to try a few times. My mistake was spotting them first and trying to get to higher ground to attack them. The solution for me was to bop into them non-sneakily, parlay with the Flind, and trick them into fighting each other, while I was on higher ground. The...

Past the bard in the Druid’s inner circle? Or climbing along the rocky shore past the dungeon entrance to where Withers is? Not that it matters, but curious.

D&D General What Are Traps For?

Nope. But I guessed it running RECON (RPG about rangers in Vietnam) back in the 1980’s.

D&D General What Are Traps For?

The game was written during the Vietnam War. Booby traps were on wargamer minds. Later on, traps were just a normal D&D thing.

D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

I wonder what happens to Shadowheart and Wyll if you leave them to their own adventures? Maybe Wyll stays with the Tieflings and you can meet him again in Act 2? I don’t remember a Harpy fight. Ah, I missed that whole quest. How chock full of quests BG3 is.

    D&D 3.x Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play 3rd Edtion D&D? How Was/Is it?

I’ve literally never seen CharOp in real life. Therefore, I don’t think it causes 3x to be inherently broken. I love this version of my favorite game. If, as seems apparent, you don’t, that’s fine. I got angry at your post, so I think I need to take a “time out”. Let’s let this one go, OK?

    AD&D 1E Edition Experience: Did/Do you Play 1E AD&D? How Was/Is It?

Hmm, maybe they lowered the price by 1982, or it was just cheaper in New York. Or I got a deal. I bought it at a toy and kids book store.

    D&D 3.x Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play 3rd Edtion D&D? How Was/Is it?

I disagree. I’ve been playing or DMing 3x since 2001 and I never seen anybody do CharOp. More an “internet” problem than “inherent”. I’m not a 4e fan, but I never had a problem with using a grid and minis. For 3e, we always did it too, and sometimes even for AD&D. XP shenanigan? The XP...

    AD&D 1E Edition Experience: Did/Do you Play 1E AD&D? How Was/Is It?

My PHB still has a $12 price tag from 1982. You might be thinking of 2e?

    AD&D 1E Edition Experience: Did/Do you Play 1E AD&D? How Was/Is It?

In my experience, I never met anyone who played Basic. But yes, no one followed every single rule in AD&D - Weapon Speed Factor and weapon type versus armor type were ignored by everyone I played with. Every gamer I know who played AD&D started with AD&D. Some did own and read Red Box, and of...

    D&D 3.x Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play 3rd Edtion D&D? How Was/Is it?

Fair Thomas. I should just ignore what I have no interest in. To explain (and feel free to skip!), the word “balance” triggers me here at this point. Feels like it’s cover for turning every conversation to the topic of CharOp, “broken“ if something has too much or little DPS/too many/too few...

    D&D 3.x Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play 3rd Edtion D&D? How Was/Is it?

Yup. Think of all the Martials v. Casters threads; they’ve been going on since BMX Bandit days. It’s so played out a complaint, it’s become “broken“ and lacks “balance”. :) ”If trees could scream, I wonder, would we still cut them down? Maybe, if they screamed all the time for no reason” -...

    D&D 3.x Edition Experience - Did/Do you Play 3rd Edtion D&D? How Was/Is it?

Cleric, Druid, and Wizard (AKA Magic User) are from “real” AD&D (1e), so I would never ban them. Balance is not something I care about. To me, it’s an Internet complaint, not something that matters in actual play.
