    Summoned Balor

Well technically, in that situation, the party should only get experience for Balor A. They 'overcame' the encounter with him, despite not killing him. Now, let's say if Balor A summons Balor B and sends him off to interdict the party. It becomes a bit muddied. Especially if it results in a...

    Unearthed Arcana 3.5....where besides Kazaa?

Of course, the enforcement of at least one of those dependancy clauses isn't enforced. There's at least one mainstream d20 product (with the d20 logo) that includes rules for Character Generation... And you're right about the experience table, and actually for the most part, they'd be ok with...

    Unearthed Arcana 3.5....where besides Kazaa?

Well to be honest, I haven't heard of anyone (specifically) being challenged at all on their declaration of Product Identity and Open Content rules. Those quotes are items that were listed as part of the protected PI, hence my comment that actually determining what is actually OGC or not may be...

    Unearthed Arcana 3.5....where besides Kazaa?

Real trouble I see is that unless WotC declares specifically which are OGL and which aren't. A great deal of the actual rules content in UA may well be protected as PI ("plots" "Thematic elements" "incidents" "symbols" "Designs" "descriptions" "concepts" etc). Just isn't worth the attempt in...

The Art of Eberron: AWESOME new WOTC Update!

Is it me, or does that picture have the right proportions to be a DM Screen? And were they planning to introduce a DM Screen for Eberron?

Vow of Poverty and one-use items

Hehe pretty much we'll have to agree on different assumptions on the implication of the text (And the usage of the word 'drink') :), but I'll try another approach anyway because I just realized upon something funny. If you assume it's ok to borrow a potion and use it yourself, then the rules...

tattoos, spikes, punk, and goth in D&D images?

I like the new art a bit myself. Of course, the OD&D and AD&D art reminds me of religious tracts a bit too much for my tastes :). Or the general pulp comics of the early 80s.

[UA] New Campaign Idea / Racial Paragons

After skimming through UA, I came up with a fun idea for a fresh campaign idea for the game I run :). I was considering just having every player's first level be required to be in their Racial Paragon class. In part, to demonstrate the "PCs are Heroes!" and possibly help set up some campaign...

    DM Questions... this right?

Ah, I found something interesting in the Gestalt character writeup which may help ya out in the future. Typically just consider their CR 1 lower (unless it's Save or Die/Special Abilities Rock Me, then CR 2 lower), for this instance, just consider as if it were a batch of 6 CR 5 (The 6th level...

    DM Questions... this right?

3 6th level PCs versus an EL 12 encounter (7 CR 6 critters)+modifier for a gestalt fighter/clerc in the mix. Yea it's a bit harsh, even with the gestalt character classes. I'd probably 'base-line' encounters around EL 7 or 8 (due to a 3 person party). And yea, that was a bit harsh, but really...

Vow of Poverty and one-use items

Common sense is hardly that :). A feat that grants bonus feats should be extremely strict (in my opinion). If the Vow is only upheld when it's "convienant", then it isn't much of a Vow. To me, the idea of vows (and the extreme benefits gained from this one) represent the ideal of actually...

    [CW] Drunken Master/Improvished Weapons

The example build is monk 5/Drunken Master 8 (human). Items don't include anything that'd affect damage die (ie, monk's belt). It's really odd, because, the base unarmed damage die is listed at 1d10 (instead of 1d8 as appropiate for his level). The improvised Weapons listing says it deals 1d6...

    [CW] Drunken Master/Improvished Weapons

Curious as I'm considering a character designed around the DM concept. The text says that damage for the improvished weapons is the monk's unarmed strike + the modifier (1d4, 1d8, and 1d12). But the example build says the damage dealt is just 1d6. Somewhat curious as to which of them is the...

I'll hazard a guess and say folks who are famous and whose likeness is actually worth some money :). Although I'd suspect more of it to actually be work on part of the Agent.

UA: Why 3d6 for the "Bell Curve" variant, instead of 2d10?

UA: Why 3d6 for the "Bell Curve" variant, instead of 2d10?

20/ 16-18 19-20/ 15-18 18-20/ 14-18 17-20/ 14-18 15-20/ 13-18 This is an attempt to make the threat ranges approximate the 5% increments they represented with a d20. Of course, I don't quite get the 'weapons still improve in every way" aspect it claims with the 18-20 ~ 17-20 flat-spot, but oh...

UA: Why 3d6 for the "Bell Curve" variant, instead of 2d10?

Hmm, maybe it's me, but I sorta thought the idea was for an extrem-ish bell-curve. 3d6 also trims both end-points equally (1+2, and 19+20). The thought is that the 3d6 spread is closer to a normal distribution than a 2d10 system.
