    D&D 5E (2014) Guidelines for D&D Next playtest/adventure discussion here at ENW

Sorry. I was just noting the fact that I nearly missed the thread in my posts, and I felt fairly sure that I would not be the only one.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Art Column Discussion: May

Yeah, that's why I laid out my reasoning for picking PG-13, and gave a range: More adult than "Korra" but less adult than "Game of Thrones."

    D&D 5E (2014) Guidelines for D&D Next playtest/adventure discussion here at ENW

I almost missed this as it's fallen about a third of the way down the page. Should it get a sticky?

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Art Column Discussion: May

Interesting. Jon's suggested list of guidelines hits all of my wickets. As for violence/gore/etc, I voted for a PG-13 rating. To me, R treads too far and ends up with graphic nudity, splattered heads all over the page, and disemboweled victims screaming obscenities. PG-13 allows for just a hint...

GLEE Season 3 Finale -- Goodbye

I hope Santana doesn't go to NYC, and goes to college. And Krug is right -- nobody applied to other schools? When I applied for college, I think I sent in 10 different applications ranging from reach schools (the USNA) to safe schools I knew I'd get into (The College of New Jersey--which was...

I totally agree. With everything you said, in fact.

L&L 5/21 - Hit Points, Our Old Friend

There are a few problems with the whole "hits are actually near-misses." First is the terminology. It's called a "hit" which means actual contact. Second is things like poisons. If every hit is a near miss, then poisons just don't work. Third is that for every person that says a hit is a hit...

L&L 5/21 - Hit Points, Our Old Friend

Right. If you're going to recover, you will likely recover faster when there is less damage than when there is more damage. And repeated injuries take longer to heal. It all goes to bolster my argument that natural healing should take longer to heal a higher level character fully than it would...

L&L 5/21 - Hit Points, Our Old Friend

And none of those is the norm. Look, if your ONLY grievance with what I said was the pro-boxer, then take that particular piece out of the pie. Imagine little level 1 Joe Schmoe just getting knocked out by Jim Jerk. Compare how quickly Joe recovers to how quickly Rocky Balboa recovers after ten...

L&L 5/21 - Hit Points, Our Old Friend

My wife fell off her bike on Saturday (literally, just this past weekend). Knocked herself out. Has bruises and cuts on her face, and big bags under her eyes. Landed face first on the concrete. No concussion (went to the doctor to make sure). Other than the bruises, you'd never know. Arguably, a...

L&L 5/21 - Hit Points, Our Old Friend

That's pretty much what I was getting at. Barring something unforeseen, and just taking the hit into account, that's exactly what would happen. And that I would call a critical hit. Lasting damage is a quite different thing. And that is something D&D definitely does not model well, at all.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Art Column Discussion: May

I know Jon mentioned it on Twitter, but I think he's been away at Spectrum for the last week or so, so I don't think he's had the chance to do much more than acknowledge that it's a problem.

L&L 5/21 - Hit Points, Our Old Friend

My copy is in storage (with most of my gaming books), so I'll have to take you at your word. I don't remember it ever being that granular before. If it is, that's excellent. I'm glad we're moving back in that direction rather than the slop of mashed potatoes that hit points have traditionally been.

L&L 5/21 - Hit Points, Our Old Friend

That's not clear the way Mearls made it clear. There's no delineation, and it's left up to a mushy glop to determine what THIS particular "hit" means in terms of HP. Is THIS hit just a lucky turn avoiding a cut, or is THAT hit actually a puncture wound? He says "a certain portion" and then...

L&L 5/21 - Hit Points, Our Old Friend

This doesn't bother me at all. A fat guy (me) can run about a mile and be completely winded for 30 minutes or so, and then might be able to run a mile again. A marathoner runs 26.2 miles and is exhausted and takes at least a day to recover to "normal" (but still probably is not up to another...

    latest gaming purchase ?

I recently acquired (legally) a free copy of "Naval Wargaming: From Ancient Galleys to Modern U-Boats" by Paul Hague. Haven't read too far into it yet, but I picked it up because I am very interested in naval combat (served 6 years in the US Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer) and because I sort...

    The Avengers (SPOILERS BEWARE0

renau1g - Yeah, that's about what the schedule was opening week where I live, too. So we saw it in 3D. Great movie. Still don't think it was worth the extra $3 per ticket for the 3D.

    The Avengers (SPOILERS BEWARE0

A few years ago, I would have agreed with you. Now, however, there were only 3 non-3D showings on opening weekend at my local theatre, and they were either too early (my wife works until 6:30) or too late (start times after 10pm don't work when you've got two kids who are ridiculous early birds...
