    Wearing armor and resting

No, I don't think that's a misconception. Tournie armor had all sorts of extras built into it, like a lance rest and sometimes even a mount for a shield. They were, as you pointed out, to ensure that there was no possibility of damage to the jouster. They didn't want to see someone die...

    Wizard Woes

One problem with the whole "why can't INT apply initiative" is that you're forgetting about the Wand Wizard. While it's not one of the more popular builds, one of the advantages he gets for bumping two stats that apply to the same Defense is that he's likely to one of the highest initiatives in...

    Wearing armor and resting

Yeah, it's not fun. My group is currently playing in KotS and the rest of them decided we needed to take a rest inside the dungeon. The DM said we had to remove our armor, which I didn't really like...but that's what he wanted. An hour into our rest a patrol comes along and we have to prepare...

    Is "Shield" too powerful?

Why? I would've traded it out for Expeditious Retreat. Granted, it's a Daily, but if you're not going to be able to block attacks effectively I'd rather just have a "Get out of Dodge" ability. Shifting twice your speed means that you won't provoke, and then you can follow it up with something...

D&D 4E Paladins - The first 4e class to fail

Why? They're two different classes. I don't compare my Fighter against the Wizard, or the Cleric, or the Rogue, or the Ranger, etc... Granted, they're both Defenders, but they act in very different ways. My Fighter can't heal anyone, for example, or take hits for them, teleport to change...

    Is "Shield" too powerful?

I just don't understand why you're all so bothered by this. What's the point in even taking shield if you have no idea what defense was being attacked, or how hard the hit was. Heck, why not have the DM keep track of HP too? Should the PC's really know how close they are to death? Isn't that...

    The monster 'crit' problem

So then what you're asking is why am I so concerned with Epic when Heroic tier critters could already easily kill parties with well placed crits, and it would presumably be even worse when you add 1-2d6 on top of that? I think that question answers itself... If the monsters at low levels are...

D&D 4E Paladins - The first 4e class to fail

I don't agree with that. There's a difference between an undisputed master that can best anyone in the realm, and the guy that best 90% of the people in the realm. The Paladin can easily be the latter without sacrificing much, but for the former he'll have to sacifice a LOT. By the same token...

    The monster 'crit' problem

What are you basing that number on? If we go with something like the PC crit system for magic items, a 25th level monster should be rolling an extra 5-6 d6's on a crit. So let's call it 5.5d6, average of 3.5/roll for a total of 19.25. However, since we're rolling dice, we should take the...

    Official WotC Power Cards... meh

Yeah, I'd much rather just use the cards out on the web. This card doesn't even have anywhere to write your bonuses down. WTF? Now, if only someone would finally get around to making some Martial Power cards....

D&D 4E Paladins - The first 4e class to fail

This is exactly what I meant though. What makes a good swordsman? HBO? No, just being good with a sword. You're the one who has also made these feats a part of your "concept", and therefore it's you, not the system, that is creating the MAD issues. You can be a great Swordmaster without...

    The monster 'crit' problem

Yeah...a lot of those kinds of posts are the crazily optimized guys. Plus, they're often talking about Strikers, whereas other classes won't be doing as much damage. Another thing to consider is the HP of those Epic Monsters. Swordwings are level 25 Soldier, so they're right in the middle for...

D&D 4E Paladins - The first 4e class to fail

One other thing on the MAD issue. Part of the problem is the obsession in the community for qualifying for certain "awesome" weapon feats. Feat like HBO, Hammer Rhythm or the Mastery feats. These feats aren't what I would call "necessary" for a class to function, they're just good feats if...

D&D 4E Paladins - The first 4e class to fail

I think the main problem with the so-called "MAD" classes is that people ignored the advice in the PHB. The problem is that many players seem to think that there is a third build. What I like to call the "But why can't I do everything" Paladin. Or Cleric. Or Ranger. Or Warlock. While some...

Are rituals a shared party resource?

Sorry for the double post, but I just found a better answer to the question about copying your buddy's book. You don't need to. Check out page 298 whee it talks about the rituals. Under the section on creating a ritual book it talks about how you need the exotic inks and such, which...

Are rituals a shared party resource?

Well, I think that would depend on your DM. I don't recall anything specifically in the rules that allows for that kind of sharing, but neither is there a rule saying that I can or can't give the magic Longsword I'm no longer using to another party member. So it's really up to your DM I...

    The monster 'crit' problem

Yeah, I think that's something that's missing out of this. Part of the difference between PC's and Monsters is that a lot of monsters already roll a pile of dice to begin with...and then that pile gets maxed. Take an Ancient Red Dragon, for example. It's a Level 30 Solo Soldier whose At-Will...

A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

Yeah, Karin's Dad had the same idea in a different topic. As a Bandaid fix, I think it works well. It won't affect the low CON Fighters very much who are gaining like 1-3 THP per hit, because those will get blown off almost every time they get hit anyway. For the high CON Dwarf Stoneblood...

A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

I think some of that has to do with how the DM runs things. In my game, our DM never goes against my marks. So basically, if I'm in the way and mark someone, he attacks me. There won't be an OA or a CC to get around me, he'll just focus on me. And then he'll get another monster or two to...

A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

That's your opinion that it's a weaker build though. At my table, your high WIS Fighter probably wouldn't be that great, and that's because my DM never provokes OA's or CC's. The problem though is that it shouldn't be something like "STR/CON = BRV", both builds should be equally viable options.
