A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

As the poster noted though, he had that exact build as a FWT Fighter and only changed the class feature when MP came out. In other words, he didn't sacrifice anything to get BRV here. He's just getting a massive boon for doing so.

A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

Again though, this is not necessarily true. My STR/CON Dragonborn Fighter in Scale with a Heavy Shield can take the BRV feature and he will be exactly the same in every respect except that he will gain 3 THP when hit and will have an Attack Bonus one point lower. Furthermore, the +1 won't...

A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

Exactly. Because if a single minion cannot damage the BRV Fighter, then a whole horde of them hitting 100% of the time can't either. Because of the fixed damage that they deal, once the BRV's THP passes that number they essentially can't touch him...at least not in melee. He was looking for a...

A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

Now that's one of the better ideas that I've heard. It's something that wouldn't be difficult to errata, and would add a lot of balance to the build. The THP would still act as a buffer, but you wouldn't just be able to out THP someone's damage and then never get hurt. In fact, I wonder if...

A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

What I meant is that we have Invigorating Powers that grant THP when you hit with them. Your proposal makes it so that the BRV feature grants THP when you hit a target. I'm just saying, why even have the different abilities? It would be like having a Rogue class feature that makes every...

A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

Exactly. THP help as long as you're getting hit. If I make it out of an encounter with 32 HP instead of 42 (my normal total) I'm going to spend a Healing Surge. Gaining THP from BRV might have mitigated that loss of 10 HP entirely, thus saving me a healing surge. Assuming I get banged up and...

A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

I don't know that I agree with that. While yes, non-melee attacks are the BRV's weakness, they don't really handle them any better or worse than the FWT Fighter. The BRV Fighter is perfectly free to take heavier armor, which will make them equally well equipped for non-ranged combat, he just...

A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

Eh...yes and no. The difference here is that the Weapon Talent Fighter needs to have a Cleric around to get that healing...a Battlerager doesn't. He can just do it all himself. I was originally one of the people that didn't think that Battlerager was that powerful. That was because when it...

Ritual Index - Up to June 05 2009

Wow, those are some really useful spreadsheets. I'll have to bring those with me to my group next time. This will be a very useful way to keep track of which rituals we know in our party. Thanks! BTW, do you have any favorite Non-PHB rituals? We have a few of the extra books and I have the...

Warlock pact for NPC with demonic connections?

Dark pact is the one you're thinking of. And yeah, I would guess that either the Dark or Infernal pacts would work for this guy's character concept.

    Limits on heavy thrown weapons?

One of the other assumptions that seems to have been made in the system is that when you're using a multi-target ranged power then the actions to draw/reload your weapon are included within the power. So, if you're a Rogue using mundane Daggers for a multi-target power, then the cost of drawing...

A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

BTW, I had a though on another reason that limiting DRV fighters to just Chain would help to keep them under control. When you look at the Chain Specialization feat, it requires a 15 DEX. So, to be able to get Chain Spec near the beginning of Paragon would mean you'd have to sacrifice some of...

D&D 4E How long are your 4e combats taking, real time?

Our group takes a long time to encounters as well...I'd say about and hour and a half to two hours usually. There's a lot of reasons for this, and I doubt it will change anytime soon... 1) About half the party is fairly...weak. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but when someone has a 14...

A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

On the whole, I think Martial Power is alright. There's a lot of good, balanced powers in there. Take, for example, Shielded Sided (Fighter Utility 2). It gives a + 2 to AC and REF and negates any CA on you. This is a great power, and it's something I like a lot better than any of the...

Are weapon mastery feats intended to be *class-specific* multiclass feats?

I'm not necessarily saying that they won't, just that we need clarification to say that they do. Please post whatever response you get from CS, as it would help to illuminate this issue.

Are weapon mastery feats intended to be *class-specific* multiclass feats?

Wrong. A Fighter draws his power from Martial power source, a Bard draws power from the Arcane power source. "A character who has taken a class-specific multiclass feat counts as a member of that class" is not the same as counting as that class' power source. I don't think there was ever any...

I'm an archer: why shouldn't I be a beast master ranger?

There's actually a couple of very nice powers that go along with that sort of build. There's an At-Will Utility to grant your pet a saving throw, in case your Raptor picks up something nasty. There's also a nice beast daily called Menacing Cry that can immobilize a group of enemies.

Summoning and the Hypothetical Battle Reality

Well, a Wizard only has 3 fewer Healing Surges when compared to a Fighter with the same CON score. So, if a Wizard puts some points into CON and takes Durability, then he'd only be 1 surge behind the Fighter (10 vs 11 if we're talking a 14 CON). As for the comment about how a Fighter might be...

Summoning and the Hypothetical Battle Reality

I think the main reason why it's Standard action to attack is to actually prevent the Wizard from having multiple similar effects at once. Since the Summoned creature doesn't have to maintained, the Wizard could actually have both a Summon and Flaming Sphere going at the same time. Without the...

    D&D 4E 4e Constitution - what a waste of time !

^This. I don't think that most parties would be taking 8 short rests because of the efficiency of how the Cleric heals. Even in the worst case scenario of everyone at 1HP after the fight, the Cleric would only 6 rests for a 5 man party (5 * 2 Healing Words, plus another rest to recharge them)...
