    Can anyone explain Masterwork Armour?

Masterwork armor existed prior to the Adventurer's vault though, so no, it wasn't something cobbled together to fix the heavy armor issue. Now, the new armors in the AV do help to smooth out the AC curve for heavy armor so that it more closely matches the light armor users. For maximum AC...

    Battlerager: Experiences?

There are a lot of BRV Fighters that I've seen that use the Chain and an Axe or a Hammer because apparently the damage calculations work out the same as if they were a WT Fighter in heavy armor using a +3 weapon. My point was that this idea DOES NOT take into account that while damage output...

Help my barbarian: Bloodclaw or Jagged weapon?

@Orcus Porkus: Well, there's the Deadly Axe Paragon Feat. All Axes become high crit weapons, which means you can use a Waraxe with a Shield, crit on a 19-20 and still get your high crit bonus while maintaining a higher defense.

    Acrobatics vs. Athletics

Not to nitpick, but those statements are mutually exclusive. I just gave you real world analogue, and you said not to compare to the real world. :D You mention a more enjoyable game though...but more enjoyable for whom? As I said before, I have yet to see an argument for the reverse...

Defenders require bad AI from monsters

Anyone here like football? Follow the Patriots or the Giants in particular? Then you know what I'm going to say... For those who don't, here it goes: In the 2007/2008 season the New England Patriots were on their way to being only second team ever to have an undefeated season. They won all...

    Attack of opportunity

Yep. That's why you don't move towards an Archer using the Spitting Cobra's Stance. =) Additionally, remember that Spitting Cobra gives you an Opportunity Action, not an Opportunity Attack. This is important for two reasons. 1) You can't make Opportunity Attacks with a ranged weapon...

    Battlerager: Experiences?

One thing that at times seems to be overlooked is that there's more to hitting than just damage. A missed attack might be an encounter power with a nasty effect line, or a non-reliable daily. In those cases, the overall effect on the fight will be much greater than the extra 5% chance to hit...

    Acrobatics vs. Athletics

The problem with "Acrobatic jumps and the like" is that the DO require some strength. You ever see the legs on a gymnast? Or, here's a better example. My wife was a cheerleader back in the day, and used to constantly work on her legs to help her with all of the cheer stuff. She had a friend...

Can one of the lead designers of D&D please stand up and clarify "Rain of Blows"?

Yeah, I don't think it's a coincidence that they gave the cool spear feats to the Eladrin, rather than the Elves. It would be much easier to meet those requirements with an Elf, but then you miss out on soooo much. I recently played as a 16th level Eladrin Fighter wielding a Great Spear in a...

    Acrobatics vs. Athletics

One of the problems that I have with the idea of substituting Acrobatics checks for actions that fall under Athletics is that you never see the reverse. When 20 STR Fighter with Athletics wants to make a leap from a 20' ledge he shouldn't get to say "Well, because I'm so strong my legs can...

    D&D 4E 4e Constitution - what a waste of time !

It all depends on what you're building for. As a Dragonborn Fighter that uses Axes, I'll probably pump CON every level. I would like to get Scale Spec someday, but it pains me to think of the loss of those couple points of CON I'll have to forgo to meet the DEX requirements. Every point of...

    Toughness vs Durable

Using both is never a bad idea, but I would take Toughness first, and then pick up Durable at a later time. At low levels, Toughness is a lifesaver because a single crit can floor non-Martial characters. Therefore, the extra HP to keep you from dipping into bloodied or unconsciousness is more...

Can one of the lead designers of D&D please stand up and clarify "Rain of Blows"?

There's other considerations here too. Powers shouldn't always be viewed in a vacuum, but compared to other powers and other builds. In order to even qualify for Rain of Blows you have to use what amounts to a weak secondary stat and a weak weapon group...as far as a Fighter is concerned...

    2 ?'s about Opp Att

Normally you cannot make an OA with a Ranged weapon. The Sharpshooter PP allows you do just that though. It would be a Ranged Basic Attack, and I suppose it would still work with any feats you have that increase OA's. Additionally, since it's Ranged Basic, it will use your DEX score in the...

Walking wounded: Anyone else having problems with this power?

I'm a player, not a DM, so I'm not real familiar with the recharge mechanic. I thought you had to roll the number to recharge it? Meaning a 1 or 2 would only recharge 1/6 or 1/3 times. Oh...or does it only go up? Meaning recharge on a 1 or higher? In that case, I would've meant a 5 or 6...

Walking wounded: Anyone else having problems with this power?

Yeah, in that case, you could just handwave the guy a one or two time teleport and attribute it to some kind of item he had. Or better yet, design it that way from the get-go. Even if a monster doesn't normally have it, giving him something that recharges on a 1 or 2 wouldn't be too...

D&D 4E How to build encounters in 4e (aka Only you can prevent Grindspace!)

First off, great job on that post. I think, for most of the "typical" builds, you've perfectly captured what different classes excel at. There are slight modifications you might have to make depending on build (Tempest Fighters are a bit different than Greatspear wielding Elardrin with Fey...

Walking wounded: Anyone else having problems with this power?

Well, first off, this is a Daily...they're supposed to be powerful. Secondly, what would your proposed fix be? Making it not work at all? If the boss is a soldier or brute enemy, then this power loses a lot of effectiveness, so that should be enough to balance it out. If you make it so that...

1st level fighter with 30 STR?

Plus, if you notice, there's a progression here. You have 1 point per increase for 11, 12 and 13. Then it's 2 points per increase for 14, 15, and 16, going up to 3 for 17 and 5 for 18. So following this progression (+1 per point after 16) we get the following... 19 = 21 points 20 = 27 points...

Mearls on Controller design and At-Will balance

How about "At-Wills that attack every NAD"? (if you include the illusion ones) Or how about "The ability to throw out large AoE effects, large burst power, status inducing effects and big multi-square forced movement effects. Or any combination thereof." Or to break it down further, think of...
