D&D 5E (2014) Are Wizards really all that?

Maybe. There are certainly people who make those arguments, although I don't know if the feats are because WotC agreed with those people. I do think that they seem worried about giving the fighter interesting abilities. Indomitable is a good example in my opinion.

D&D 5E (2014) Are Wizards really all that?

True, although it does require the player to come up with the idea to do so. However, I played in a game in which we, the players, reached 20th level and actually played at that level for a bit. The wizard definitely had the most ability to effect the course of the game compared to the rest of...

D&D 5E (2014) Are Wizards really all that?

Kinda yah. I think there is probably a lot to it. The Wizard is one of the "core 4", so to speak, and going back even further is one of the first two classes the game had. It gets a lot of legacy love. In addition, the flavor text you mention is pretty helpful, in that basically the wizard's...

D&D 5E (2014) Are Wizards really all that?

I couldn't quite figure out how to put into words, but here goes. I think wizards are both overestimated while still being arguably the most powerful class in the game. White room discussion does often ignores hurdles that wizards have to face in game (having/prepping the right spells, figuring...

D&D 5E (2014) Battlemaster and Superiority Dice are causing martials to suffer.

That kinda has the problem I have with Gishes in general though, which is why would anyone be a fighter (In character especially) if you are nearly as a good a warrior as the fighter, plus you have a bunch of useful spells on top of that?

D&D 5E (2014) Battlemaster and Superiority Dice are causing martials to suffer.

There is some serious reaching when the argument is that fighters are more complex than wizards because of the amount of weapons they are proficient in. I think an important point is that complexity does not necessarily equal power. It doesn't even directly connect to versatility/more options...

    D&D 5E (2024) Pie in the Sky 6E

I mean, something that I 'want' in a kneejerk decision? No Gishes or Artificers. I don't actually want that because it would be a bad idea to do so for the game as a whole, and quite a few of my friends would be disappointed. I'll try to come up with some more things I actually think would be...

D&D 5E (2014) Battlemaster and Superiority Dice are causing martials to suffer.

I think most of the big points have been brought up already. Difficulty in balancing at will options is tough. I did also want to point out that by making such things actions anyone can take, fighters specifically are weakened. This might have already been mentioned, but one has to ask why play...

Against the Giants 5e PBP (Full)

Just as a head's up, I'm going to be on a vacation starting tomorrow, and will have limited to no access to posting during. I should be back sometime Sunday. Until then just assume Valda will attack enemies that move towards her, and she'll try to block access to the door that I moved towards in...

Valda drops to floor of the chimney when space becomes available, moving swiftly due to Eoghen's inspiration. She continues to hoof it towards the southern doors to cut off any attempt to retreat through them. When she finally stands between the enemy and the doors, she calls upon the rune magic...

Valda holds off going down the chimney until the rest of the group has made it up the rope and down themselves, figuring that if needed her boots would be helpful in case something goes wrong. Stealth: 1D20+21 = [8]+21 = 29

'Sounds like a plan' Valda thinks through the mindlink. She is not really the mastermind type, instead following quite squarely into the follower role, which she is perfectly fine with. 'I can help anyone up who might have difficulty scaling the wall.'

Valda supports the idea of retreating before the bulk of the steading can fall upon them, and will assist in getting the group over the wall with the help of her Boots of Spider Climbing.

'I can help with the ogre killing. Here to be muscle.' Valda mentions offhand through the mental link. That said, she appears slightly on edge, constantly scanning the courtyard for oncoming danger.

'That is the sound of us being made.' Valda thinks back through the mindlink. With the giant she had been fighting now dead, and unsure how much longer this eldritch speed would last, she leaps forward to help Eoghan with his ogre. +1 Longsword Attack Rolls: 1D20+9 = [4]+9 = 13 1D20+9 = [7]+9...

Valda continues concentrating on the giant, hoping to take it down so that the only worry is the group of ogres. She swiftly strikes out with her blade, the spell of haste nearly making her sword arm a blur. Sorry! Yesterday was last day of the month, which means I was basically working all...
