I suggest a barbarian, since that's what you want to play. Your stats are fine, and you'll be able to increase them as rhe game advances. If you're worried about stats, be a half elf, mtn dwarf, or humzn. They have the best racial bonuses.

I'm guessing it's 5e, because he'd probably mention it otherwise.

If you were to take a "realistic" approach to DND (yeah, I know...), in a world where darkvision is the norm, races without darkvision would be at a significant disadvantage from an evolutionary standpoint. Heck, they'd probably have never survived at all.

I have one on my human archer eldritch knight. It's an owl, and I've never used it for anything other than scouting. Still, very useful.

Whenever I see "aggro" and "dps" I think "video games," and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. :/ That being said, I am interested in what constitutes an "optimal" party. :)

It's not a bad build, but it's sub-optimal. The Half Orc Savage Attack ability works on weapons, not natural attacks. If your only purpose it to get Relentless Endurance, then that should still work when shapechanged. I'd recommend Human or Hill Dwarf. Human can do the Magic Initiate trick...
