Getting the most out of the Scout class

I second the Dervish. I'm looking to make a Scout/Swashbuckler/Dervish NPC, and it looks like it could be mean. I don't have CV here, though, so I can't tell you exactly how the numbers but line up.

The Ethics of Slaying half-fiendish silver dragons

That's all subject to literary interpretation ;) As a Lecterphile, I tend to disagree. :D

    In the campaign I'm in....

There are no halflings. Generations ago, the dwarves left their cities in the wake of several world events, and gradually came to be gnomes. The gnomes of the world are wandering tribes of tradesmen. Not "merchants," but more like nomads. There are a few ruins of their ancestral cities left...

    Touch attack bonus

About what bonus equivalent should this magic weapon special ability: When making a touch attack for a spell, you may make the attack "through" the weapon, adding any of its to-hit bonuses to your to-touch roll. No damage is done by the weapon, however. If something deletrious would normally...

There's actually a +2 quarterstaff/+2 longbow in Complete Adventurer for about 11,000gp. Not sure how much they make the "base" weapon. If they compute it as a double weapon, it's actually -5,000gp for this feature :D If as a single +2 weapon, then the bowstaff itself is almost 3,000gp. :\...

    Low-level planar travel

As a complete uber-fanboy of the Myst series and setting, I will second the portals through books thing, as it is amazing. :D If any of your players have played Myst, though, they may think it cheesy.

Really? What are the basics of how it works? Unfortunately I don't have that book, though it looks like maybe I should pick it up.

And isn't this the house rules forum? :D Seriously, I had considered this fact, but would rather it just be "regular," other than the shapechange.

So, I'm looking for a quarterstaff that can magically transform into a longbow and longspear, and that's it. No +1 or anything. :) Any ideas on what the price should be? I'm thinking no more than a couple hundred gold. As a side thought, what do you think would be the price of an item that...

Arcane Spell Failure (and reducing it)

Really, once you're above, say, 6th level, Mage Armor or Greater Mage Armor is probably just fine for dungeon-type adventuring, where you know you will need protection "for this afternoon." If you want it all the time, though, then what the others said :)

    Wizard Martial Weapon

Say you have a wizard who suddenly has proficiency with all simple weapons and one martial weapon his choice (human paragon). He's never going to be a real combatant. What do you pick for the martial weapon, and why?

    What does RAW stand for?

Is anybody else suprised that this thread is already 20 posts long? :D I couldn't possibly imagine anything worth bickering about from the thread topic, but I see new things every day ;) I had heard "Rules According to Wizards," myself. ::shrug::

    Familiars!

Can someone else with craft wonderous item make your familiar spellstitched, or must you do the operation yourself? As for Polymorph Any Object  That's awesome! Except we're not talking that level range :D The Elemental Familiar spell, I assume, completely erases any other goodness one...

    Subvocalizing spells

I thought this, too, but there are game-mechanics effects from silent spell, which is why it has a cost to use. This, however, is purely flavorful, and so has no cost other than a feat. That's my logic, anyway.

    Familiars!

I'm looking for any and every method of improving one's familiar. I know of Improved Familiar, obviously, the dragon familiar feat from the Draconimacon, and of the planar familiar feat in the Planar handbook. But what else is there? Just need a name and a book, unless you want to give me a...

    Subvocalizing spells

I'm trying to insert a bit of flavor into a spell-caster, and the idea of a wizard who says magic words, throws around material components, and waves his hands in funny ways. In the Planar Handbook there is a feat that allows a spell-caster to use nonmagical sounding words to cast spells, like...

    What Makes Your Homebrew Great?

I haven't DM'd for awhile, and when I did, I sucked. But I can give you a player's perspective of why PLAYING in a homebrew is fantastic. My DM is trying to become a published fantasy author, and while I can say that I doubt they'll ever get published, it does mean that he has written several...
