January: What are you reading for your penultimate year?

Finished up The Shattering. Fantastic book. Now reading Harvest Moon, though only for the story by Cameron Haley (which serves as a prequel to his excellent novel Mob Rules).

Would you play a game with only 1 life (ie. New Cap City)

Many MMOs used to have an option typically referred to as "hardcore" (e.g. Diablo 2's Hardcore characters, or EQ's Hardcore server), where character death was final. It has its attraction, but not my thing.

    Is D&D (WotC) flaming out?

"Here" meaning any sufficiently-populated forum on the interbutts, as threads derailing is hardly unique to ENWorld. :)

    Ship map, plans

There's a nice ship flip mat, though that's really only an option if you are willing to spend the money and have enough time to wait for shipping.

D&D is actually kind of unique

I think class-based games require a great deal more work than point-based ones, which may explain the popularity of point-based ones. Well, I think you've got it backwards; where there are levels, there are usually classes. White Wolf's system, for example, has classes but not levels...

D&D is actually kind of unique

I may be way off base here, but I tend to think of D&D as the ultimate 'generic fantasy system', archetypal even. But the more I examine it, the more I'm starting to come to the conclusion that D&D is actually fairly unique. Important: For the purposes of this discussion, when I say D&D, I am...

    Modrons Look Funny?

Was going to toss you an exp to say ditto, but apparently I gotta spread it around some... Color me unimpressed with The Goonies. Also first watched it in my 20s.

    Modrons Look Funny?

Clearly, the takeaway here is that Santa must either be a Modron, or at least have access to Modron technology.

January: What are you reading for your penultimate year?

Got bored with Paradise war and stopped about 1/3 the way through. Just started reading The Shattering (the WoW novel). Barely scratched the surface on it so far.

January: What are you reading for your penultimate year?

Well, it's Jan 2nd, no one else has started a thread yet, and people are posting in December's thread! OH NOES! So it's the penultimate year. Time to start working on that bucket list before Quetzalcoatl (holy crap, I spelled that right on the first try!) bathes the world in cleansing flames...

    Is D&D (WotC) flaming out?

WotC's published plenty of APs as well. With the caveat that this is just a gut feeling (which is to say, not backed up and worth slightly less than the pixels representing it on your screen), I suspect WotC's published more APs in 4e than Paizo.

    Is D&D (WotC) flaming out?

Actually, most DMs are wise to the ten foot pole by now. Many groups are upgrading to 11 or even 12 foot poles. Personally, I think the best thing to do is just tie a rope around the rogue and toss him in (adding the dwarf as ballast if necessary).

    Modrons Look Funny?

Polyhedral sides? Yo, dawg, I herd u like sides, so I put sides in so sides so you can roll while you roll. EDIT: Also, what polyhedral sides might look like: (an "exploded-d6"-style d24)

    Is D&D (WotC) flaming out?

Any printed adventure *must* to some extent be a railroad. Perhaps one with lots of branches and tracks, but still a finite number. Adventure paths only exacerbate the issue by forcing assumptions as to the resolution of previous adventures.

    December: What are you reading?

Finished up Cold Magic. Rocky start, but overall I rather enjoyed the book. Once again, through sheer coincidence, I've found that the book I just read was recently-published, and there's no telling when the next in the series will come around, so I find myself floundering for something else to...

Stores too cheap to turn the lights on

I've never noticed this, and further have no idea what B&M is. Unless the "&" stands for "DS", in which case this thread is wholly inappropriate for Eric's Grandma. ;)

    Is D&D (WotC) flaming out?

Haven't read the entire thread, so I apologize if someone else brought this up... While Essentials appears to be a repackaging, it's really more of a combination of a splat book and a rules clarification (I hesitate to use the word update, because very little of consequence has actually...

Making superhero gear make sense (mostly Marvel related)

Note, for example, that you mention a "microtorch" instead of a "lighter." The former is genre-appropriate, because it is itself rather fantastic. The latter, not so much (although it might still make sense in certain context). The gadgets have to make sense for the character. The issue isn't...

    Printing PDFs

I've never had any problems at Staples. In fact, my local staples has a color printer that you can stick a USB drive in and print the PDFs yourself. I've also printed gaming PDFs at a number of Staples by submitting the order online. I imagine it all comes down to the people working there...

Making superhero gear make sense (mostly Marvel related)

...did you really just use Iron Man as an example of superheroic minimalism? O_O
