    Hit Points... Up or Down?

I can recall at least one occasion where a player dealt damage to a monster and, as I added that to the damage total, I realized that the monster had actually been killed a couple rounds earlier. So just keep in mind that if you're adding up damage, it does add one more thing that you need to...

    RPGs in Target!

In his defense, if I had to play DDO very long I'd be homocidal as well. What a terrible game. /No, really. It's a terrible, terrible game, and even at $free it's not worth playing

    Penny Arcade completes the cycle

For completeness's sake, the cycle ended here today begins in this strip and continues through the next three strips. The conclusion of that particular storyline is one of my personal favorite PAs ever.

    RPGs in Target!

Indeed, I've seen advertisements for Dark Sun in quite a few geeky places all over the web. They're clearly targeting lapsed gamers with the tagline, "Just as brutal as the stories you still tell" I'm quite impressed with the marketing, I think they hit the nail on the head.

Some specific questions about a few virtual tabletops, help appreciated!

At the risk of being a bit tangential, as someone who worked IT for the CS department during college, neither CS students nor professors are necessarily predisposed towards being any good with computers. I still don't understand how someone can be so good at programming and be completely...

Tiles and floorplans... how to decorate?

Well, WotC's dungeon tile sets usually come with a variety of 1x1, 1x2 and 2x2 double-sided pieces with all manner of the sorts of things you're looking for. Statues, debris, grafiti, webs, etc. They seem explicitly designed to be used on top of your dungeon tiles to spruce them up.

    Your favorite character advancement scheme

Of course it could! No, different game. Diceless system where you push stones around on your character sheet... Don't remember who publishes it.

    A New Monster Idea

It's a cool idea, and original as far as I can tell. Would be excellent to add some fun to any scenario featuring undead.

    Your favorite character advancement scheme

I like this idea a lot, and am using a similar idea in a system I'm working on. In my version, which is d100 based, you need to roll greater than 50+skill level on a straight d100. The reason for the high threshold being that, because of the way the system works, letting people get very large...

    3.5 or 4th edition?

Really? Particularly as a gamer, I find that difficult to believe. Unless you've never been verbally assaulted by other gamers who go on and on about their characters or campaigns... I'll take a hate-filled rant over another story about your damn thri-kreen from high school or Harry Potter...

    3.5 or 4th edition?

Disclaimer: I'm a 4e guy. 3rd edition is more simulationist. It emphasizes verisimilitude and consistency in rules. 4th edition is more gamist. It emphasizes balance and gameplay in rules. A common complaint of 3rd edition is that most of its fun is in a relatively narrow band--around 5th...

    Dark Sun: I has

Ah, crap. I did a quick search for dark sun and didn't see anything, didn't think to check that far back. :/ I guess the mods can just lock this thread, I can't really add anything new.

    Dark Sun: I has

Got my hands on Dark Sun (campaign setting and creature catalog). Don't have time to look at them at the moment, but I figure I'd open the floor to questions and I'll be happy to answer what I can later tonight and tomorrow. I don't have much experience with Dark Sun, so I can't give good...

Will Google Wave Play a Part in Your Game?

And nothing of value was lost... How insightful! Thank you for sharing that profound wisdom! I started off cynical, had a great first impression when I finally got in, but cooled off very quickly. It was just too... "choppy." Your writing would be interrupted all too frequently and it was a...

Power Grab: A FFA Archenemy variant for Magic

Power Grab is a variant for a free for all game of Magic using Archenemy. A scheme deck should be constructed, per the normal rules (at least 20 cards, no more than 2 of any single card), with care taken that it shouldn't have any effects which are completely useless to decks lacking certain...

Preview of the new D&D COmic!

No need to be modest. :p Seriously, though, it's always great when content producers show up in the forum to interact with their customers and with your CV it sounds like the comic's in good hands.

    Eberron: World of Darkness

Wow. I wish you the best of luck, but I can't imagine ever doing anything like that. It's like saying, "I'm inventing a new drink that combines soda with the hangover from alcohol." Ugh. In case it's not obvious, I love most of the WoD settings, but I think the system is absolutely terrible.
