    D&D 5E (2014) Blade Ward cantrip

    Yep. What Scorpio616 said.

    D&D 5E (2014) Blade Ward cantrip

I pictured it as the spell the wizard casts when suddenly six orcs appear from behind and he needs to get to safety. He can cast the cantrip and run, trying to get back to the rest of his party. Not saying it's a great cantrip by any stretch, but it could save your life in the right circumstance.

    D&D 5E (2014) Holy crap, that's cool

The ageing only happens if you fail the roll by 5 or more, and it can be reversed by a greater restoration spell cast within 24 hours. So there are ways to avoid it sticking.

    D&D 5E (2014) Holy crap, that's cool

On the note of cool stuff in the MM, how about the ghost's Horrifying Visage ability? It can permanently age you by 10 to 40 years.

    D&D 5E (2014) Our Thundertree Experience (SPOILERS)

Your black text on a black background is hard to read! Aside from that, great play report. It's always fun to hear what sort of shenanigans the PCs get up to, especially when dealing with dragons. I love the bit about the rogue needing to prompt the wizard, that sounds very funny.

    D&D 5E (2014) Holy crap, that's cool

First off, I'd suggest that basilisks have enough experience drinking from pools not to be startled by the reflection there. Secondly, too many ripples to make a good reflection.

D&D 5E (2014) fifth edition release schedule ... cart before the horse?

Selkirk - It sounds like you've been burned on homebrew before, and that's a shame. The published modules for 5th Edition have been, in my experience, excellent. I haven't played Phandelver or Hoard of the Dragon Queen, but I'm involved in the alpha playtest, and so I've had a chance to see...

D&D 5E (2014) My sister wants to be a Halfling Barbarian (Starter Set)

First off, welcome to D&D! I hope you have a blast running this game, it sounds like it'll be a lot of fun. Secondly, everything about the character looks pretty good. The weapon choices are solid, battle-axe offers some nice barbarian flavor. She should have a lot of fun with that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Offensive touch spells

I can't quite put a finger on one. It feels like the jokes are just slipping through my grasp. As far as on-topic posting goes, I had not noticed the dearth of touch spells in the PHB. I wonder if it's an oversight that spells like Vampiric Touch are not touch?

D&D 5E (2014) My Players Are Building A Dungeon (And They Don't Know It)

Through this experiment, I have learned two things. 1) People are terrible at remembering to reply to emails 2) Organic dungeon creation is showing great promise A great example of point two; outside of the Medusa lair (NPC monster), there are now two statues. One kuo toa who was surprised...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is this power gamey?

My initial thought was 'no, that doesn't work in wild shape'. But then I thought it over. Why not? The power is only useable once between long rests, so it isn't like they could use it again if they get down to 0 in regular form. Also, that's what distinguishes a half-orc druid from any...

Making A Challenge 30 Undead Monster

At a glance, that looks pretty competitive. It seems like a well-constructed monstrosity. I like the dropping of wights, it`s a very flavorful ability (although fewer, more dangerous monsters might be better from a mechanical standpoint).

D&D 5E (2014) Hex maps and dungeons and dragons.

I suspect we'll see this in the DMG, along with the other grid-based options for combat.

    D&D 5E (2014) Monster Relationships

With a little help from Asmodeus, let's not forget! I believe he was the one who put the plan in motion.

D&D 5E (2014) My Players Are Building A Dungeon (And They Don't Know It)

First blood! A yeti has slain one of the kuo toa scouts! For those of you keeping score at home, that's a point for the yetis. The chuul nearly has a magic item, and the goblins almost have some food. The ogres are lazing about, and the kuo toa are dangerously close to finding a whole bunch...

D&D 5E (2014) Is the 5e Monster Manual the best MM ever?

For me, it comes down to Monster Vault and the 5th Edition book. I think I'd have to give it to 5th, simply because I'm enjoying the setting more. But Monster Vault was a brilliant, compact book full of adventure possibilities. By far my favorite bit about the 5th Edition MM is that when I...

D&D 5E (2014) Monster Manual - What pictures really stood out, or changed your view on a monster?

I'll second the vote for Merrow. That piece of art is just menacing. I was a big fan of a lot of pieces in the book. The aboleth and the mummy lord were also spectacular. On the flip side, the owlbear was a huge disappointment, especially after all the awesome concept art.

    D&D 5E (2014) Rise of Tiamat Delayed

I'm glad they're looking to release a quality product, and any delays are fine by me. That said, this one hits close to home. My Thursday group is working through the playtest version. They're embroiled in a homebrew side-quest, leading an army in the Snakewood of Amn. We're about to hit the...

D&D 5E (2014) My Players Are Building A Dungeon (And They Don't Know It)

I did, at one point during the 5th Edition playtest, create a high level dungeon that was steadily filling with lava. PCs had to flip switches which would flip doors between 'open' and 'closed' to proceed. The switches would flip every door in the dungeon, which meant the lava would steadily...

D&D 5E (2014) My Players Are Building A Dungeon (And They Don't Know It)

Think of it as a design experiment. I'm letting my players help me populate a dungeon, and give it a living, organic history. I've come up with the basic location; an ancient dwarf tunnel-fortress that cuts through a mountain but has been abandoned for centuries. There are occasional merchant...
