    D&D 5E (2014) Player's Handbook page quality

My copy has pages that seem slightly wavy when the book is closed, but are pretty flat when it's opened. It hasn't been an issue.

D&D 5E (2014) Hoard of the Dragon Queen: As it Turns out, it's Pretty Good (so far)

Good write-up of your experiences, Steel Wind! It's interesting to hear the perspective of someone who prefers Pathfinder, yet finds the adventure compelling. It leads me to wonder if WotC might just pull off their goal of producing higher quality adventures this time around! My own...

Ogre Stew -- Help me brainstorm!

Clever, inventive idea! I like it. Maybe some spices could be used as improvised weapons? Things that could create clouds to hide PCs, things that could blind or explode? Small passages that cut through the ogre's den could be used to help the PCs escape if they need to dodge the ogre...

    D&D 5E (2014) Official: Dragonborn = Draconian

How many hybrid dragon-person races do we really need? I would definitely support draconians being a 'variant dragonborn', in the same way that drow are a 'variant elf'.

Hey DMs, what are your quirks at the table?

I do voices. To make certain NPCs distinct, I also like to give them sayings, or verbal quirks to immediately remind players who they're talking to. I'll often leave notes to that effect in my NPC stat blocks. The biggest quirk I have is making handouts. I've attached a picture; this was a...

    D&D 5E (2014) apparently 7 out of 10 gamers are talking about 5.0

Not to latch on to a minor point, but everything I heard or read suggested that the ratings were amazing (especially for a SyFy film).

    D&D 5E (2014) I have something... THE TARRASQUE!

Augh! Someone uses a Monkey Island insult swordfighting reference, and I can't XP! Must spread around... But still, you fight like a cow.

D&D 5E (2014) Kind of confused about the staggered releases.

Is there a compiled list of typos, errors, and omissions anywhere? I don't really want to browse through that whole thread to find them. At a glance, most of them seem to be mis-named spell references and the like.

    0 Level Characters

I think the point of this exercise, if it's being run like Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG is to hand each player three or four characters and see who survives the gauntlet. I haven't done this, but from others who have, the fun is trying to keep the character with the best stats alive while using...

    Critique my Unusual Legendary Lich?

I agree with Quickleaf on this. The Lich does have 'shield', which can give him some excellent AC spikes at dramatic moments, giving him AC 18 as well might just be overkill. This is pretty typical for liches. Does your party have magic weapons? If they don't, your fight may be quite tough...

D&D 5E (2014) Your thoughts on Legendary Actions

In my time playtesting, I have run a number of creatures with legendary actions, and a number of creatures with lairs. Those fights are always a challenge, and always dynamic and interesting. It does a much better job of creating a 'solo' than 4th Edition ever did.

    D&D 5E (2014) So...warlocks?

I played a warlock during the playtest, back when their slots didn't recharge on a short rest. The warlock was hopelessly underpowered in that scenario. But with the more frequent recharge, they're right up there in terms of potency. One of the best pieces of treasure a warlock can get is a...

D&D 5E (2014) Egregious TPK retcon in Hoard of the Dragon Queen

TPKs are not everyone's cup of tea. I don't mind them myself; I always feel like there ought to be a chance that things go horribly awry when out adventuring. But I don't gun for them either. But yeah, it's not something all groups will appreciate, especially when it's a stacked encounter...

    D&D 5E (2014) PHB: New Subsystems?

A bunch more races. More subclasses. A physical book to have at the game table. Lovely, lavish artwork and production. Many more spells, classes, subclasses, etc. Feats. Multiclassing. Many more backgrounds. If you're playing a lot of 5th Edition, if you're trying basic and enjoying it...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition -- Help Me Break the Game!

I think you may have found something here. If this is the worst offender, I think we can safely say the game is pretty well balanced. I can deal with a high-AC character. :)

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition -- Help Me Break the Game!

Pretty sure this topic was started either tongue in cheek or to troll us. Either way, I admit I'm curious about combinations that can upset game balance so that I can see them coming before they become an issue at my table.

D&D 5E (2014) It is hard to wait! (for my pre-ordered PHB)

OH man, I feel you on that one. On Thursday, we'll begin our Tyranny of Dragons playtest session by upgrading the characters to full PHB readiness. Every last one. (We'll also be rolling up two replacements for the PCs captured by the dragon last session). Sometime during the week, my...

D&D 5E (2014) Legendary Actions (from HotDQ download)

As someone who's been playtesting Tyranny of Dragons, the legendary actions are fantastic. It really gives the dragons a dangerous feel. Monsters so potent can break the action economy, and it feels appropriately powerful. It does not, however, imbalance the game; rather, the legendary...
