Where do you meet to play?

There's an idea, I work at uni too. But I rather not go there after office hours. Prefer to keep work and private seperated.

    Killer DMs

I'm not a killer DM, but from the DMs in our group I'm perhaps the most ruthless. Sometimes PCs and NPCs die, but only a couple each year. There's a Dutch saying some of us tend to scream at our table, regardless if it's sensible: "De dood of de gladiolen!" (which basically means: Death or...

Where do you meet to play?

Generally at my house as I've got most gaming supplies at hand. Sometimes at other player's houses if there's a good reason to do so (e.g. "I'm ill, but still want to play, can you guys come over?")

Would a game group where there were changing GMs work?

see this thread in the D&D Legacy forum on similar thoughts: http://www.enworld.org/forum/d-d-legacy-discussion/321958-multiple-dms.html

    Methods that ignore SR?

Maybe a bit too obvious: use spells with the descriptor: "Spell Resistance: no" I like the Orbs of [elemental] spells for that purpose. Belker Claws has no SR too IIRC.

    Awesome Dice

Those are pretty cool, make sure you get the 16 mm dice, the smaller ones are too small IMHO.

    Rules for Torture/Brainwashing?

I think torture is a great example of where you should roleplay instead of rollplay

    Emotional Attachment

I'm also thinking the amount of money spent on 3.5 will make sure, we'll be playing that for a looooong while. But it's also the case of "If I were a rich man..." I wouldn't necessarily stick to a certain system which I invested heavily in if I had the funds to invest in (and try out)...

    Multiple DMs?

something we're going to try is not really round robin DM-ing, but similar nevertheless. We have a single DM for the entire campaign (planning to go from lvl1-epic, now at lvl 6). From time to time someone else among us is going to DM a sidequest. The only rule is that it should be...

    What's your favorite trap?

Going to incorporate xWolfLordx's suggestion of the 15 foot pit with g-cube on a ledge, and the already sprung pit-trap in an earlier room. Sounds like enough for a single dungeon.

+1 to existing spellcasting class, Ranger, Paladin

as resposne to hte original question, yes, ranger is eligable, you might even consider taking practised spellcaster feat to get +4 CL.

    Class Ideas V.2

so he basically bans you from playing spellcasters? Weird, sounds like a very childish GM. I can get it when a GM says: "no clerics in this game, for there are no gods to grant wishes", or: "no psionisists, because psionics don't exist in this setting" or any similar reasoning. I really...

    So how screwed are we?

until here, I wasn't worried. run away, find cover, hide, rest, heal, buff and try again.

How do you tell your GM and friend that he just isn't that good

thanks all, for the tips and replies. just wanted to say that I maybe should have rephrased the thread title. It is (as some of you pointed out) only the combat part which doesn't seem to be as satifying to a few of us as we are/were used to. He otherwise IS a great GM and storyteller. Might...

    What's your favorite trap?

I'm designing a short adventure and running out of inspiration. Had any memorable experiences with traps?

Any 3.x prefab adventures with a "water" theme?

I love that book, that series (with Libris Mortis, Fiendish Codexes) are some of my favorite 3.5 fluff books. I did run that encounter once with this party. Defenitely fun. I'm probably going to make something myself. Thinking about using Sarkt (Mind Flayer Sorcerer) from that same...

Any 3.x prefab adventures with a "water" theme?

Just looking for a small adventure, say 2-5 sessions worth, around level 7,8,9-ish Wondering if there's anything with a sea/beach/nautical/aquatci theme available. other suggestions around that level are welcome too. cheers!

How do you tell your GM and friend that he just isn't that good

Sounds like your problem is worse than mine. What would he say if you just asked how he think it's going? Does he see that it doesn't work well and is he in denial or is he oblivious that you are not enjoying yourselves? Maybe someone else can volunteer that (s)he really would like to DM...

How do you tell your GM and friend that he just isn't that good

Valid points to consider. The fact is that we are all used to combat heavy campaigns, and he made a combat heavy campaign (sent us into Undermountain). He really does make the effort, but he simply appears not know how to use the battle terrain, or the best use of monsters abilities. It's...
