PbtA Games: Sell One Well +

Sorry for the necro bump, I found this thread by accident while looking for a particular game, but you got to check out Nobilis. It is basically Sandman + American Gods the RPG. It's much more rules minimalist than anything in PbtA, but chargen is a bit more complex.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Magical Martial

I've retired a character for that reason specifically, and I also know of at least one person who prefers PF2 specifically because casters are more restrained in that edition. It's not that strange really. Sidenote: If you go to any 5E board you will find people complaining about the balance...

D&D General Sunday Fun: The PCs are left holding the bag. What's in it?

Another idea. The Incomprehensible Machine. The item in question is a box, inside of which is some kind of mechanical contraption. The box is convenient to carry, having a carrying handle and the insides are padded. Inside is this weird thing made from gears and everything you can imagine, and...

WotC Bard is the biggest mystery in the 5.75e PHB

Spells should have tags on them, rather than spell school categories. That way you could have healing, blasting, resurrection, etc. categories instead and then give the bard access to sound, illusions, enchantment and healing.

D&D General Sunday Fun: The PCs are left holding the bag. What's in it?

I like the Wish idea, and here's a twist: So some person, the Instigator, encountered a very powerful genie in his travels across the planes. He made a wish, and a wish of some incredible magnitude. Not just something minor, but rather something like "The Great Wheel shall be under my control"...

How is that relevant to what I said?

Looking for a Cyberpunk Genre Game

If I were you I would look into Runners In Shadows. It's basically Blades In The Dark + Shadowrun. It looks pretty interesting, but I have not had time to play it yet.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Magical Martial

lol It's bad because it can make people feel bad. Let's create two hypothetical scenarios. Let's assume that there are two classes X and Y. They are both balanced. There's no way this balance can make players of any of them feel bad. They are balanced after all. Only some kind of absolute...

Is it fun to plan a heist?

Then what is the point of playing a character who is good at talking? Is that relegated to the players who know how to talk?

Is it fun to plan a heist?

I hate planning because all that we're doing is nothing. A small amount of it is fine, but if all we're doing is talking without progressing anywhere it gets boring.

What games, currently, have your interest?

Going a bit off topic here, but how does Lancer and Battletech compare?

What games, currently, have your interest?

Right now the list is quite small. Runners In Shadows (Shadowrun + Blades In The Dark) Blades In The Dark Dragonbane Nobilis (have run a few sessions of this and it is one of my favourites)

    D&D 5E (2014) Encounter Balance holds back 5E

It's definitely bad design. I'd rather all abilities were unlimited or all abilities were limited (4E strikes again)

    D&D 5E (2014) Encounter Balance holds back 5E

Too dismissive. It's definitely bothered me. It's definitely bothered other people. There are near endless threads about serious flaws in the design of the system. The 15 minute workday is a thing. There are no tactics that can compete with near infinite castings of Shield or Silvery Barbs.

    D&D 5E (2014) Encounter Balance holds back 5E

No. It's definitely a problem that casters are balanced around a limited resource while martials are balanced around having fewer limited resources. If you have few encounters then you are effectively giving casters unlimited spell slots.

    D&D 5E (2014) Encounter Balance holds back 5E

It's very much nonsense, but it is also very important. If you don't follow that system a lot of the class design problems are exacerbated.

D&D 5E (2014) How would YOU nerf the wizard? +

I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but Dragonbane uses a deck of cards for initiative. Since there are no duplicates in the deck you never need to worry about ties. Dragonbane uses a mechanic where you redraw initiative each round (and their version of Fighter gets to chose whether or not to...

D&D 5E (2014) How would YOU nerf the wizard? +

I worry that would be tedious in practice, but I admit I haven't played any systems that do this. Maybe it works better than it sounds. Edit: I really like the idea of not knowing what my initiative will be from round to round.

D&D 5E (2014) How would YOU nerf the wizard? +

It's not bad in theory, but it's going to be so clumsy to play in practice because now for each caster you would need to track the initiative of spells too.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Magical Martial

Bolded for emphasis. That line specifically is a huge issue I have with 5E D&D. At first when I played Pathfinder 2E I didn't see the point of Skill Feats, but the more I played it the more I understand that they are quite important because they allow characters to get really good at something...
