Anyone have experiece with Cisco routers?

The stuff I read on the Dell website said it's 54Mps within 3 meters and 18Mbs within a significantly larger distance. Since I'm planning on having the computer about 25 meters away, I'm basing it on the reduced speeds. :) People I've talked to have said that hackers can emulate your network...

Anyone have experiece with Cisco routers?

I won't receive my computer until March 5th to March 7th. So I'm planning on waiting until I get some suggestions. Routers (consumer grade, at least) seem to have a range of about $45 - $60, right? What brand do you suggest? My external (?) wireless LAN is a 802.11 b/g type, if that helps...

Anyone have experiece with Cisco routers?

Now that all that is done, anyone care to help me set up a reasonably-secure home wireless network that connects directly to my DSL? :p

    Better Windows calculators?

You mean it's been there all that time, and I didn't even know it? Grrr... I've really got to start exploring the programs I have more. :) Thanks, man, that's something I didn't know. I've bookmarked the webpage, as well, for when my computer finally gets here (about 3 more weeks...).

    Better Windows calculators?

Everyone who has a windows computer has, at some point, used the cheapo calculator that comes with it. I have, it's quicker than using the adding machine on my desk. But I want something better. (Sure, I can do the job in Excel...) So, does anyone know where I can download (and, if need be...

Rome: Total War: how's the manual?

My Gateway/WinME p.o.s. died about two years ago, after being nursed along for three years by me. This current computer was a shelf model, upgraded to be barely useful. (Too much unemployment in the last few years...) This is going to be my first new computer in years. Intel Pentium 3.0...

Rome: Total War: how's the manual?

I've played M:TW, and recently bought the Viking Invasion expansion (and found out my current crappy computer couldn't handle M:TW; one of many, many, MANY reasons I bought a new one from Dell today :D ). I'm not fond of the battle part (because I suck at it, sadly...), but I do enjoy the...

Rome: Total War: how's the manual?

I made the mistake of bidding on a copy of Rome: Total War on eBay without reading all the text. To my horror, after paying for it, I realized that (1) it was a foreign import (but in English?), (2) it won't come with the manual or the box, and (3) I'm paying $8 S&H for the privilege. :( So...

    Problem with Wireless... any ideas?

So what is involved in a wireless router? I've a DSL line here at one end of the house, and I want to buy a new computer to set up in the other end of the house. I'd like to be able to access the DSL from there, without having to have the phone line extended. I've got a $50 or $60 wireless on...

    World's Largest Dungeon question

Before I shell out $60+ on this (one of the last share-the-love discounts :( ), I want to know, is there much worth stealing from it? I don't want it for the sake of a campaign, but rather for memorable items: npcs, magic items, traps, treasure, stuff like that. I don't think it'll ship for...

    Speed eating mole

You'd be surprised. The days of severely overweight individuals winning speed eating contests are long past. Now it's people who are skinny, but who have heightened metabolism. Hence the woman's picture... Of course, she'll have to quit sometime around when she hits 30, because her...

I got Lost Empires of Faerûn, you got the questions

I've got both Lost Empires of Faerun and Races of the Wild on order from Amazon.com, and they're projecting a March ship date. That's amazon for you: slower than molasses at absolute zero, but you save a couple extra percent...

    No More Share the Love?

Pity. I was wondering where the flurry of weekend STL emails were. :) At the very least, they didn't cancel orders with it already attached. I've got WLD on order, even though it doesn't ship until April (I've ordered d20 Past, as well).

    USPS Blues

In America, our individual mailboxes come with a long piece of something red attached on the side. When you have outgoing mail, you flip it from horizontal to vertical. This lets the mail carrier know that there's mail to pick up. Otherwise, they'd have to check every single mailbox. When...

    Music lyrics

Nope. The only way I found it was there was an ad on the website saying "Now Playing: Gone by Montgomery Gentry." Memory isn't my strong suit. :p

    Music lyrics

Heh... If I could remember, I'd do that. :) Luckily, not five minutes after posting that, I visited the local station's website, and found out it was Montgomery Gentry's "Gone."

    Music lyrics

I'm wracking my brain, trying to remember the lyrics to a song I've heard on the radio. It's a country ballad about leaving, and I think it's rather new. It's a particularly powerful and evocative piece, and I'm hoping to be able to pick it up off of iTunes. But I don't know the name of the...

Nothing quite so certain as ... taxes

Where did you get that figure? I'm looking in my 1040 manual, and a single individual getting more than 319k pays 35% in taxes (35% x 1M = 350k, less 19k you get to keep, is 331k= 33%). Tack on probably another 5% for state taxes, and you're stil looking at keeping over 60% of your money...

Complete computer kits for the novice?

Bummer. :( Looks like I'll have to scrimp for a month or two, plus toss in my tax refunds (if any; hope I don't owe money :) ), to get a good one. I just have to decide if I want to get the laptop (and get some mobility, but the danger of dropping things, as well as the increased cost), or...
