D&D 5E (2014) Help needed for 5E Mountain Random Encounter Generator

Added this is as a possible extra. Will most likely integrate this into a more intricate system, but want to concentrate on full encounter tables of all the terrains first...

How do you find names for PCs and NPCs?

This is my current favourite place (Fantasy Name Generators) too. I like the name generators from fantasy and sci-fi shows!

    Generating Better Character Names

Lemerac is a fine name and after an unfortunate reincarnation he became a unique pixie Blackguard! I even named an adventure after him. But as Jhaelen mentions, revered names can sometimes seem strange, either when they are noticed or if they just don't quite work. It was only year later that I...

    Generating Better Character Names

True, but it's still made up :) And it's hard to have an article on fantasy names without mentioning Gary's tendency to populate Greyhawk with variations on his surname. Has anyone counted how many variations there are?

Joke names are often the ones players (and GMs) actually remember...:) Added www.behindthename.com/ to list of generators to check out!

    Generating Better Character Names

Games masters and players alike struggle with character names, settling for a thief named “Bilbo”, a wizard named “Harry” or “Dave the Fighter”. When faced with a group that reverses nearby objects for characters resulting in “Lemarac” or “Reeb”, then it’s time to consider other options...

D&D 5E (2014) Help needed for 5E Mountain Random Encounter Generator

Added along with previous suggestions. Hunting I've included as a more long term task but maybe I should add if they are chasing something at this moment....

D&D 5E (2014) Help needed for 5E Mountain Random Encounter Generator

Hmm, I like this idea of a Reaction table, and also maybe tying it into activity/state. So hostile creatures are more likely to be waiting in ambush or arguing amongst themselves, and friendly creatures more likely to be celebrating or creating art. I'll have a look at adding in a simple version.

D&D 5E (2014) Help needed for 5E Mountain Random Encounter Generator

So it depends how a game is run. If it's more simulationist then certainly your 3rd level party will meet 7 frost giants in the dangerous mountains. If it's looser then the encounters may just be adapted to meet the needs of the party or the story. Currently I tend to aim for encounters around...

D&D 5E (2014) Help needed for 5E Mountain Random Encounter Generator

I've put up a first version of a 5E Random Encounter Generator using O.G.R.E., with filters for Low (1-4), Mid (5-10) and High (11+) Level. The encounters are trying to provide more detail than just the number of creatures. Eventually I want to add all terrain types (and maybe planar...

    D&D 5E (2014) Your Adventuring Party Names

I've often thought that others (NPCs) will call a group something if they didn't have a name, based on the actions and reputation of that group. Probably something insulting knowing most groups :)
