How Important is Magic to Dungeons and Dragons? - Third Edition vs Fourth Edition

And isn't this control merely the illusion of control, since the DM has final say in everything that's going on (even the effectiveness of powers, skill use, etc.)? We've all been playing one fun, cooperative LIE! Absurdity aside, I think it's important to view 4E through the lens of both...

Says Playtest: Monk. So here's hopin'!

    PH3 Playtest Race: Wilden

Hostile? HOSTILE to worldbuilding. C'mon, really? That's a harsh term. What if your world doesn't have mountains? Are Dwarves "hostile" to worldbuilding, then? They gave PC races their own pre-made fluff so that people could play them out of the box. A giant portion of groups are just...

WoTC May Editorial Calendar is Up

Yeah, looks a bit boring so far. It's as if WotC wants me to relax, get outside, enjoy the fresh spring air. I'll be DAMNED if I let that happen. And a Penny Arcade Dungeon article? Huh.

    PH3 Playtest Race: Wilden

Haven't played much 3rd ed Faerun, have ya? ;) I'm on record as hating the Eladrin, but I see why they exist, there was more than enough room for both Eladrin and Elves. Otherwise, you have to wonder why forest elves are getting a +2 to Int, when they honestly couldn't care less about book...

    Arcane Power- Wizards Stretched Thin

Footwork Lure with an extra shift, I believe. Also, it's called a spell, when it's really not. I mean, honestly. It's got the arcane keyword, and nothin' arcane is going on. Kinda lame.

Wilden Name Poll! -- Forked Thread: PH3 Playtest Race: Wilden

Yeah, another vote for Wose! Although honestly, we shouldn't encourage WotC and their "W" use. There's 25 other letters in the English alphabet. Let's give 'em a chance.

    PH3 Playtest Race: Wilden

The mechanics are par for the course, but I really enjoy the fact that they tied 'em in with the fluff. Honestly, these guys intrigue me about as much as Goliaths do; but I don't expect every race to trip my trigger, and the fluff is substantially different from everything else we've seen that...

Stop Combining Words in RPGs! - Let English prevail

True, 4e names are horrible. And as they keep releasing more powers and more items, it's only going to get worse. There's only so many unique, fantasy-oriented names for magical daggers. It's going to sound like Tycho's hyperbolic rantings from Penny Arcade.

All Three 3.5 D&D Books in the Amazon Top 25!

Darn right! It's good for the hobby no matter what edition. And, more money in WotC's pockets from older edition sales* means more money for them to spend developing sweet, sweet 4E material. ;) *Assuming most people are buyin' 'em new...

All Three 3.5 D&D Books in the Amazon Top 25!

Slap fight! White Wolf doesn't show up until #48 or so on Imaro's list. I figured they had a little more "oomph" than that. Still, though, 'tis only Amazon.

    GTS 2009 D&D Seminar - the Rouse discusses D&D

I could get behind Roller Derby. And SOME famous comic artist/author has a good thing to say about D&D, surely! What you need is a systematic method for outing every celebrity who plays D&D.

    GTS 2009 D&D Seminar - the Rouse discusses D&D

I imagine it's because he helps create customers out of the specific demographics you're looking for, rather than pull in tangential targets. Begs the question of what areas of geek-dom/nerd-dom you guys should target most, and how much overlap there is. Is it worth advertising at Trekkie...

    Math and D&D

That's one of the few things I have read up on. I'm playing a 4E Invoker (he's "collaborating" with a god to put his mathematical theories into practice, as part of a bargain), so I will probably re-fluff a lot of my powers to be along these lines, patterns and functions, as well as logical...

    Math and D&D

No, no arrays or equations here. Well, maybe. I'm making a character for a new campaign, set in Faerun, who has recently come to a sort of enlightenment regarding fundamental mathematics, and their interactions with divine and arcane powers. I'm doing the research into the math myself. I've...

    GTS 2009 D&D Seminar - the Rouse discusses D&D

You know what'd be awesome? Have the guy from Dead Fantasy and Dead Fantasy 2 do a wicked-awesome animation of a 4E party kicking butt. Thinkin' outside the box, one lame idea at a time. But seriously, get on that. :)

    Ecology of the Deva

I think the Deva's "blah" appearance might be on purpose. They're evocative of the race they're modeled after, a very superficial "perfection," but there's no depth, no uniqueness. Perhaps when they first chose their form, they were still too distant to grasp the finer aspects of beauty and...

    Avenger. What am I missing?

DracoSuave, you rock my world, I'm definitely cluing my friend (playing a 1st level Avenger) into the math, in case he decides to take it. I'll offer a less complicated alternative: Try it for a level, and if it doesn't work out, retrain it to Durable. Can never go wrong with Durable. ;)

    Speculation -- next Friday's PH3 Playtest?

That's an interesting idea, but how would they balance "paragon" races with regular races that have made it to the paragon tier? Maybe limit feats/power choices, or have their racial power swap out one of the PP powers one gets. Hrm.

    Speculation -- next Friday's PH3 Playtest?

I'd like to see one of the Incarnum races brought back and made, well, better. The originals lacked flavor/fun, for me. 4E Dusklings, booyah.
