Interested in checking out non-D&D fantasy "old school" ttrpgs

Great that makes recommendations easier. Last question. What platform do you play online?

What are you reading in 2025?

Are you worried about Alzheimer’s? Kinda feel being able to publish at least 6 novels after the diagnosis is amazing which just goes to show, never surrender.

What are you reading in 2025?

I decided to go back to my childhood and re-read the Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett. I had forgotten how formative they were about my concept of fantasy. I finished Colour of Magic and Light fantastic and now onto Equal Rites which is so funny and provocative. It also introduces Granny...

Interested in checking out non-D&D fantasy "old school" ttrpgs

So a couple of questions if you don’t mind… Do you play face to face or online? How important is a physical book to you? Do you prefer published adventures or do you definitely want to write your own? Do you need the rules all in one book? I can’t recommend WFRP enough but there are three...

D&D 5E (2014) Dispel Evil and Good cleric spell 5th level in use

Touching a creature in combat that doesn’t want to be touched should require an attack roll. The reason break enchantment doesn’t require one is because the spell doesn’t envision a hostile version of removing someone’s charm or possession. In the same way cure wounds doesn’t require an attack...

D&D 5E (2024) How excited are you for the 2 upcoming Forgotten Realms books?

I’m very excited about the Dale Lands which has always felt like the most English part of there have been some great products like the Campaign Setting Box and products like Ruins of Myth Drannor, Doom of Daggerdale, The Randal Morn Trilogy and Shadowdale: Scouring of the Land. Very excited to...

Really good structure for Factions (system agnostic)

it’s sounds like a 7 point scale pops up in a few places. It must be good. I love how your table scales risk and has direct consequences for being in or out of favour.

D&D 5E (2024) Atlas of Faerun (with some pictures from the internet)

Can't beat a bit of Mike Schley. He's the king of Forgotten Realms cartography and its really exciting that a full atlas is on the way. What is the source though? Is this a product coming soon?

    D&D 5E (2024) Representing afflictions in D&D 5e - which do you think work best/least dislike.

I am thinking about separating the symptoms of the disease and the illness itself. The lesser restoration would cure the original disease but not necessarily instantly remove all the symptoms.

D&D General Greyhawk fans - How to fit older modules with Age of Worms

Crazy that three DMs were all considering running this at the same time! @Distracted DM @MGibster @earthsea_wizard did you start and how are the campaigns going? I finished the campaign last year after about two years DMing it start to finish. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Converted to FR though, as I...

D&D General Does anyone recall coming across any magic weapons that return when thrown...other than Dwarven Thrower, Hammer of Thunderbolts or magic boomerangs?

So the Thri-keen use a Chatkcha that returns back to their hand without being magical. The Chakram mentioned above by @Tonguez is also a sacred weapon of Shar from the forgotten Realms as it strongly resembles her holy symbol. Also returns without being magical. Sometimes called an infinity...

Really good structure for Factions (system agnostic)

Having a measurement for the relationship as well is probably a useful tool too. I quite like a simple slider. The title in brackets is for PCs that have joined the faction. You can move up and down the slider and it’s possible - depending on class, species, other faction allegiance - to start...

D&D 5E (2024) Can a Warlock who swaps out Pact of Chain keep his familiar?

I’m with @Clint_L . It stays around and betrays the Warlock viciously at the first opportunity. Any tendency to obedience or loyalty the familiar had is relinquished when the invocation was. I think you know it’s wrong to keep it as is, which is why you asked the question.

Really good structure for Factions (system agnostic)

So all @pemerton ’s talk of ‘Best Interests’ and using them to provide alternative spurs to story than maps and events, reminded me of the Faction write ups in Dungeons of Drakkenheim sand box adventure. I’ve seen similar attempts to do this in other products like Lords of Darkness (The...

    D&D 5E (2024) Representing afflictions in D&D 5e - which do you think work best/least dislike.

There was something I missed out actually. Is there mileage in malignancy effects being represented by a flaw. Similar to how madness is represented in 2024? A roleplaying trait which the player is invited to fold into their character without a mechanical effect? For instance if the disease...
