    Why is it so important?

But you might be in the minority. Which is fine! But I think NOT catering to the needs of a larger audience, not drawing more players, not making the game more fun and easier to play for MORE people ... would be a mistake. Keeping Vancian magic because it is a Sacred Cow and how some people...

    Mundane Craft System

Beyond the hate, I assume that they'll put something together. There were several good 3rd party products put together that expanded on the current d20 craft rules, and I imagine they'll probably steal some notes from there. Or, if they don't, it is something that can be added on with, again...

    Playtesting?

I see a pen and some paper. To the right. No, more right. More right still. See? There, on the table. Character sheet? --fje

    No full attack option?

Oi. Reminds me of this time that a guy decided to be a wildshape focused Druid. He kept transforming into big cats with pounce and rend and he'd be making five or so attacks EVERY ROUND ... and adding them ... slowly ... on his turn ... And ending up doing less total damage than my barbarian...

    Why is it so important?

I think per-encounter is a good step, but I hope to see other changes. I'd like to see the removal of binary Save Vs. Dead/Nerf abilities. I'd like to see a flatter curve to HP distribution. As it is, the High Con characters have High Hit Die classes while the Wizard has a lower Con and d4...

    Why is it so important?

3.5 is not Badwrongfun. 4E is not Badwrongfun. If those of you that like the system now want to stick with it, that's awesome! Those that don't want to switch? Awesome! I'm not judgemental. I know that parts of 3.5 do not work for me and do not work for my group. That it looks like some...

    Why is it so important?

I know, for one, I welcome our new per-encounter masters. Playing in a weekly game, currently at 16th level, and playing a front-line fighting cleric, I know that my character has two settings: GODLIKE and run away! I'm obsessive about layering redundant systems. I have feats that mimic...

Planning to convert? (not just upgrade)

I'm not sure. Currently we're playing through the Age of Worms Adventure Path. We're 16th level and have three modules to complete before the end. Unfortunately we've had quite a few setbacks and such so that our weekly game over the last year is lucky if we get two full sessions a month...

Some D&D Insider bits (Update 9/13: Lots of new info)

I would totally not mind the collectible online miniatures linked off of the collectible physical miniatures they already have. That would be a great value-add and a way to keep people buying the plastics, giving More Options of what they bring to the table (the plastics are then a wargame...

Why is the WoW influence a bad thing?

Pf, I think it's smart and just and right. Nobody is going to take away your ability to play D&D the way you want to play D&D. If you and your group likes playing Pretty Pretty Princess and having long tea parties during your D&D game where you play Theatre Major at one another for hours ... I...

    Counterattack?

I think the dragon fight had another If/Then type immediate counterattack. It could be several different things. 1) A class ability that sets up some sort of If (The foe misses you with a ranged attack), Then (you can shoot back). Just for the Ranger. 2) A general rule ability that sets up...

To WotC: How to Pick Up Girls

... ... and then the group made matching wrist-bands with tiny silver holy symbols of each of our faiths on them, so that if any one cleric lost or had sundered their holy symbol, someone else in the party could hand off the ... charm ... from his ... bracelet. And we spent several thousand...

Tomb Under the Tor (New Playtest Report)

Well I think there would be some functional difference between Quarterstaff and Magic Staff, just as there is now. Additionally, Wands have never been useful as a weapon in the past. I mean, I could see the value of using some current wands as physical melee weapons, touch attack spells and...

Tomb Under the Tor (New Playtest Report)

This may be where the gish stuff we've heard comes in. The staff HELPS you haul out the boom, so the gish who isn't using a staff is hampered somewhat by this and perhaps needs to invest character resources either in non-focus spell use or in turning his weapon into a focus, etc etc. --fje

    Chopping off Body Parts

I don't think there need to be rules for it, really. Any rules are going to get ... overloaded. Because if it is in the RAW it is going to happen relatively often. If the players have the option to maimify somebody instead of killing them, they're going to do it, probably pretty often. You'll...

Tomb Under the Tor (New Playtest Report)

I'm glad that they seem to be using wands and staffs as focus items. The charged item thing never struck me well. "I've got a staff, it helps me haul out the boom." That sounds fun. Less playtest report, more playtest document! And ... and then give me the playtest document, of course. --fje

D20 Modern: Has Wizard stopped caring about it?

Which will be, IMO, totally awesome. I love d20Modern and all of the 3rd Party work it has spawned. That 4E will have an OGL suggests, then, that d20Modern v2 will have an OGL, and that work can continue in the 3P market. If we see a lot of the major improvements to the system made by the OGL...

To WotC: How to Pick Up Girls

... ... So, ah, my big manly burly war-cleric of St. Cuthbert has a cute shoulder dragon. It is a Dragonwrought Kobold Alter-Selfed into a tiny wyrmling dragon that happens to be a 15th level blaster sorcerer ... but Cute Shoulder Dragon nonetheless. Then we've got the female cleric's Cute...

    D&D 4E 4e Dungeon Design - New Article

The only thing I'll miss about Mook rules is the lucky guy. Though maybe he'll still be around. In our AoW campaign we came upon a random encounter with stock orcs when we were 5th or 6th level. They weren't a threat. However, it came down to the cleric going toe-to-toe with one of the orcs...
