New tidbit about spells and hit points.

Hm. I think I like that mechanic. The condition track was interesting, but wouldn't scale to D&D very well. For instance, D&D characters seem to take fewer BIGGER hits than SWSE characters, which would regularly top their Damage Threshold. We were doing some quick math the other day and if...

    Playtesting?

I know I would like to get in on the playtesting. For 3E I could be patient because I was between game groups and generally not as active in the community. This iteration I'm an even bigger gamer nerd than I have ever been and I'd love to get in on the playtesting. I'm sure a lot of other...

    D&D 4E WotC guys - Playtesting 4E in Canada/outside the US?

Every time I see a thread with playtest in the title I get all excited. Then comes the letdown ... and the thought that they might let Canadians, of all people, playtest D&D. If they're letting the Canadians into this shindig, the least they can do is let ME in. :) --fje

    New Playtest up...

Meh. I'm glad his group is a one-off or whatever, and I do sincerely see the value in testing edge cases and non-basic scenarios. However, currently I see the choice of topic and presentation of that topic in the playtest reports to be specifically aimed at releasing little to no information...

WotC's forum "Iconics" discussion thread (or "goobye, Lidda")

I'd like to see new iconics who are interesting and diverse. I think we had too many "yet another girl" pictures and the artists unconsciously pegged on the most interesting and dynamic (Lidda) and used her for more pictures. Mialee was usually too busy trying to look like an elf and different...

    New Playtest up...

Meh. I use Wealth rules in my games, converted out of d20Modern. They are much hated by many on the boards, but I find they work wonderfully for me. I found, using Wealth rules, that players tended to spend their money on different things AND, for some reason, they didn't spend all of their...

    Dave Noonan on WoW

My wife and I play WoW. We each have a level 69 character, and largely we play together. My character I started two years ago or so, not long after the game came out, anyway. And I have realized something about myself in that time: "I really suck at World of Warcraft. Alot." I think she...

    "Flipping" saves to attacks

Math is deeply important to RPG rules, but for the math-disinterested it should disappear. But it shouldn't be ignored. While it might not be your cup, Don, I am always interested in this sort of stuff and I have some props for Wulf for talking about it. These deeper mathematic issues are...

Do you think 6 months are enough for playtesting?

I am most concerned with not getting an NDA and a playtest package in the mail yet. Grrrr. >.< To some extent I think they are sacrificing the playtest opportunity and some amount of the good it would do for, I feel, limiting the impact to sales. Now, really, that impact to their sales might...

    Skills?

Well, IIRC, you get +1/2 level to all skills that can be used Untrained, but cannot use Trained Only skills unless you're Trained. So Spellcraft would probably be a Trained Only skill, while Athletics (Climb, Jump, Swim) would be a skill everybody gets some basic ability with. --fje

    @devs of PCGEN: A question

In general, it is faster and prettier and easier to build giving the tools that Microsatan has provided. DirectX and the like. It allows for more graphical umph and easier end-user usability with less development cost. Java-based cross-platform software requires, well, Java to be installed...

    "Flipping" saves to attacks

Essentially, take your current saving throw bonus and add 10. That's now your Reflex Defense or Fortitude Defense. In Saga the numbers going into it are somewhat different (a flat 1/1 level bonus plus a small one-time class bonus) but essentially, that is the mechanic at the core. I'm trying...

    OMG Fireball, Noooooooooooo!

Hrm, that sort of falls into something about Spycraft 2.0 design that I had questions about. At 1st level, some Spycraft characters get special abilities that basically state they will always pass skill checks that are thematic focuses for them. I.E. that the 1st level character is The Best Of...

    Just Not Feelin' It...

I certainly hope they open it up soon. In terms of testing and development there isn't huge amounts of time left. --fje

    Just Not Feelin' It...

I dunno, I'm not feeling much, if any, bite from "price gouging". They're a company. They need to stay in business. I pay much more for other entertainment venues in a given 5yr to 10yr. I bought the 3.0 books when they came out and I hadn't really bought a large amount of 3.0 material...

Why di WoTC lie to us?

Because it doesn't matter that they lied, since everybody will say: "Oh, it is just business, so that makes it okay. They wanted to surprise us so they lied. It was a good lie. Ha ha." --fje

    Grim Tales question. . .

Mmmmmmm ... TOASTY! I need to find my GT book now. The SRD is dead in the water and I'm working on some stuff. Although I think we've got one where we game that was bought for the group, I may steal it for a while. What we need is a GT2.0. --fje

    Grim Tales question. . .

I have been fond of: Crank MDT down to 10. Armor adds Damage Conversion = Armor Bonus (converts Lethal to Nonlethal) MDT Save = 10+(1/2 damage) That's my usual modern setting, anymore. My group likes a high lethality game, it seems. --fje

d20 Modern: What Would you change part II

A question I have is: If interative attacks as part of BAB are removed, how much is 1/1 BAB 'worth'? At first I did not like the 1-attack style of Saga, but I realized they had, instead, split out iterative attacks into feats. If iterative attack is a feat, selectable by Character Level...

Why are we trying to make 1st level PCs tougher?

I think, fundamentally, the game should be about having fun. Getting wiped out in early levels might be fun for some groups, but perhaps not for others. I think a growing sentiment is that early-level characters are generally not capable enough to be "adventurers". First-level adventures...
