    Design and Development: Skills

My initial reaction is likely unfair and based at least partially on my own current experiences at work. But, man would I hate to be one of the actual designers WORKING for Mearls. You have a recently promoted manager who is doing design in a very public way and in an admittedly half assed...

    Time for an all-pixie campaign

This I agree with. For example, investigating the reality of how 2 lb creatures fly sheds light on the silliness of restricting how high they can fly. Or even dragonflies (which pretty much has to be the best physical match for a pixie) fly well over 100 feet up. This is all assuming that...

    Time for an all-pixie campaign

Even if they're what D&D calls tiny, a pixie is WAY bigger than a bug. I assure you, crows fly higher than 3rd floor windows all the time. For real animals you're also very often dealing with "won't" much more than "can't".

    Time for an all-pixie campaign

I think that you're basically invoking the "its magic" meme. Which is ok. But, other than that, it is NOT realistic that something that can actually fly (a very small humanoid with fairly large wings) would only be able to fly up to 10 ft. Sorry, its a pet peeve. I have no problem if people...

    Time for an all-pixie campaign

Its justifiable in terms of game balance. And anything can be justified with the "its magic" meme. But it sure as heck isn't realistic otherwise. Please find a bird that stays within 10 feet of the ground all the time, especially when somebody below it is scaring it. Note that even if a pixie...

D&D 4E Is 4E Too Easy Anymore? (Game Day Spoiler Alert)

What I'm reading from this is: Yes, the modules are too easy. But a good, experienced GM knows how to rewrite things in order to fix the problem. That is in absolutely no way a slam at you. It sounds like you made it a fun experience and you are to be complimented for doing so. But it also...

    Time for an all-pixie campaign

Flight is very, very hard to balance. In the right situations its can be a game killer. Other times it is just about useless. My guess is that they'll toss in some completely arbitrary restriction on how high a pixie can fly. It will make no sense, of course, but it will help limit them.

    Mearls: Augmenting the core

In theory, one might be able to balance it with things like bonuses to stats or even level bonuses applied to the simple character.

    Anima RPG?

I played in a reasonably short lived campaign (perhaps 10 total sessions) The rule system is incredibly complex. More complex than D&D (any edition), Hero or Gurps. It seems fairly playable at least at the starting levels. But it wasn't at all obvious what the complexity was actually gaining...

How to make an AGoT Maester?

You might want to check out the RPG for inspiration. At least one incarnation of it was D20 class based (I think it followed the SRD).

    Order gone overboard

It depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for something vaguely plausible that still makes the players creeped out then I think that you're going WAY too far. To achieve that level of player distaste I'd definitely go with real life examples. Definitely one requires a license to...

    Cleric (Templar) is Up

You're missing my point. A rules resource is not what WOTC says or what you say. Its what is actually used by the gamers at the table. The last campaign I was in all the characters were built using the CB. And the rules we were using were the rules on the powers on the printed character...

    Cleric (Templar) is Up

Of course the CB is relevant. Its what people use to make characters. Do you really think that most people spend hours pouring over the hundreds of pages of errata and very carefully look up every power in the Compendium in order to make sure that everything is exactly right? No. They create...

    What's changed?

I think that it is fair to say that there is NOT universal agreement on Damon_Tors summary. For example, I think that mages and wizards are very balanced. And personally I'd play an old style Paladin before an Epaladin unless I wanted the mount.

Dragon 399 - Heroes of Tome and Temple

That changes the flavour from the text in the article a fair bit but it actually works. You're not telling the person their fortune, you're suddenly yelling "Hey, SmallBrain, what kind of creature is that?" :-). Not that the current mechanics support the flavour in the article either. I...

Dragon 399 - Heroes of Tome and Temple

But those only work if the Seer does this RIGHT before the action and so knows what the recipient is going to do. It takes a standard action to perform, that is going to be unusual. Much more common is the case where you throw it just before entering the door. And it is NOT the seer suggesting...

Dragon 399 - Heroes of Tome and Temple

This is at least as true at the world level as at the game level. One of my biggest problems with this is at the world level. Basically, the Seer is saying "The next thing you do will succeed, the thing after will succeed incredibly well, and then you will fail" (dice read 12, 20, 3). So...

Mastered Rituals when starting higher than 1st

You can do something like this but I'm not sure that its really worth the hassle. Although you can definitely look at rituals as a group resource you can also look at them as a place where the character gets to shine and feel all important. And, at one level, EVERY magic item is a group...

    Vampire in play

I haven't played that much LFR but from what I've seen its nowhere near that bad around here. There has been one revenant character but my character didn't know it was a revenant until AFTER we'd done the PC bonding thing. I just glanced at the compendium for Revenants. Its extremely...
