Can an arcane initiate take Beguiling Strands?

I want my character to take the arcane initiate wizard multiclass feat. And take Beguiling Strands as the encounter power. Its a Mage power and not a Wizard power but I thought that the two were basically freely interchangeable. The character builder doesn't let me do this, even after this...

    D&D 4E Any dual-crossbow powers in 4e?

Why not just go with a ranger and re-fluff the bow to being a pair of hand crossbows? No mechanical differences from having a bow (or crossbow) at all. Ie, you do damage according to the "bow" or "crossbow" you buy mechanically. Feats affecting that type of bow affect you. But, in terms of...

Dungeons & Dragons #2 out today!

I'm also guessing but I'd be surprised if the Hairy Tarantula didn't carry it

mage and wizard - power swapping

I did that but nothing happened. That was how I was able to grab the wizard encounter and dailies. While the Mage at wills are nice so are some of the wizard ones. I've always been a Thunderwave fan, for example.

mage and wizard - power swapping

Against my better judgement I just subscribed to DDI for a month and am trying out the CB. I created a mage. It will allow me to pick Wizard encounter and Daily powers but it won't let me pick wizard at will powers. Is a mage actually allowed to swap in Wizard powers? If he is, is there a...

FREE shipping to the far corners of the planet

I'm also a very satisfied customer. They are almost always cheaper than amazon.ca. And their customer service has been superb. I mentioned to them once that the product that I'd received was not what I'd expected due to what was arguably largely or entirely my mistake (also arguably at least...

    Magazine Survey from WotC

I'm formerly a reader of Dungeon and Dragon. And I'm a potential reader of Dungeon and Dragon. And while I'd actually be willing to answer a survey as this means that there is a chance that my opinion would be heard I'm most certainly not going to find a feedback address in order to send an...

    Magazine Survey from WotC

Interesting. It seems to be a subscriber only survey. Which implies that they have little or no interest in attracting new customers. Or, of course, that they're idiots :-)

D&D Insider - My main beef

Its a pretty random guess on my part as to why I'm "special" :-). Given that I live about 25km from the border its unlikely to be distance related :-) ;-)

D&D Insider - My main beef

My main beef is something different. For some unknown reason, WOTC keeps unsubscribing me from DDI. Twice now I've subscribed and a week or so later they've kicked me out. 1st time they refunded my money before kicking me out, second time they refunded my money only after I complained (I told...

Review - Tikbalang: GUardians of Kalikasan

I just bought this and posted a mini review on rpgnow Its a nice, evocative race more than worth a measly $1.50. Seems fairly balanced to me as well.

    Siloing: Good or Bad?

Nonsense. I'll admit that there is a fair learning curve to come up to speed (a statement also true wrt D&D) but once I was up to speed I could go from character concept to fully statted out character in about 5-20 minutes depending on concept. Now, both Hero and GURPS do suffer from requiring...

    Wizard Build Suggestions (PHB ONLY!)

I had a great time with my Eladrin thunderwaving staff wizard. The Fey Step ability can be very, very useful both for getting into good position and for occassionally getting out of trouble. My starting stats were Int 16 (18 with racial modifier), 14 con, 15 wisdom. This allowed the Staff...

4E - 18 Months Later: Love it or hate it?

Or maybe, just maybe, some of us who don't like it have actually played it a lot and have what we consider quite good reasons for disliking it. It would start an edition war if I were to enumerate the reasons that I dislike the game (dislike, not hate, btw). But there are many reasons and they...

    Even Steven Array

I'd go a different route and just tweak the point costs a little to encourage whatever you wish to encourage. So, if you want to discourage 18s then make them a little more expensive. You want to encourage 14's then make them cheaper. Have all stats start at 10 and give out 2 less pts. That...

Players: Have You Ever Asked, "Why Don't You Take Care Of It?"

I've definitely asked and, when I've asked, I've expected a reasonable answer. If the campaign is intended to be at least somewhat plausible and realistic then I expect a decent answer to the question. Not perfect, perhaps, but sufficient to allow me to suspend my disbelief. In a vaguely...

    Choosing Magic Items: Daily Powers?

I (mostly) ignore daily magic item powers. I almost completely ignore daily powers when picking my "prime" items. I then have a whole bag full of cheap magic items with daily powers that may be of some use in some particular circumstance. I sometimes even remember them when appropriate :-). I...

    An Indecent Proposal

We use plastic pieces from an old Risk set. 6 colours, 2 types of each colour, small enough to place on the cardboard squares we use for the bad guys. This makes it REALLY easy to track most monster conditions, marks, etc. The colours generally get reused a lot but that doesn't turn out to be...

    The Essentials articles are atrocious.

To give a simpler example. Lets take 2 powers, both level 1 at wills for the same class. Power 1 : Weapon Str + 2 vs AC 3D6 + STR damage Power 2 : Weapon STR vs AC, 2D6 + Str damage. On any particular set of dice rolls the second power may average more damage. If you only do 1 swing the odds...
