Have These Basic Questions been answered yet?

If you want a realistic simulation of what life would be like with wizards and clerics, maybe. I prefer a fun simulation of sword-and-sorcery adventures.

Paladin should kill the Warlord and take his stuff!

Paladin has too much baggage to take over the warlord role. People have always complained about how they couldn't play a woodsman without also getting spells, and you want to stick tacticians with the same problem? If anything I would have said that the warlord stuff should be rolled into...

    d12, the LEAST used die

Do they make those? I'd settle for 8-sided d4s. But I'd prefer 12-sided, simplicity be damned. I like dodecahedrons, thankyouverymuch.

What Classes/Roles Are Revealed So Far?

The video where they first explained the roles concept talked about druids subbing for clerics, but they didn't say that 4e druids will be able to sub for 4e clerics. They talked about how the 3.5 druid looks like a good substitute for cleric but doesn't quite cut it as a sole healer, as an...

    d12, the LEAST used die

I'm fond of those 20-sided d10s where each number is printed twice. But why doesn't anyone make 12-sided d4s?

What good is a kensai class if you can't even do a Musashi homage? :/

    Armor Check Penalties

You can have that convenience without doubling a player's penalty. I'm pretty sure that the sudden steep increase in penalties is the reason they're objecting, not the consistency part.

Jonathan Tweet On His Variant Cleric

And what it says about them is that all of his cleric's by-the-book abilities are per-day, and he wanted to add a per-encounter power to the mix. It's most definitely a 3e cleric being houseruled in a way that might or might not faintly resemble 4e clerics in some way.

    Shadowdancer....are they possible?

Wild speculation: shadowdancer will be a paragon path, but it will be possible to mix rogue and warlock to make a viable character in that theme at low levels.

    Monks and AC

You're talking about a Str 14 Dex 16 monk. I was talking about a monk with Dex 18 and Wis 18. Unless you have spectacular dice luck or an insanely high point-buy, you're not gonna have those two 18s and still a 14 Str.

    Monks and AC

I don't know exactly what Vow of Poverty does, but yes, both Dexterity and Wisdom add to a monk's AC. The Dexterity bonus is lost when the monk is flat-footed, and the Wisdom bonus is always in effect. So yes, a level one monk with really high Dex and Wis can have a pretty good AC. But...

    Readying and Swift Actions

Since the bracers last for a round, you can activate them on your turn and then ready your standard action. Although, if he doesn't come within 15' that turn the bracer effect will be wasted, so that sucks a bit.

    D&D 4E Less hit points in 4e?

The lack of +Con items alone will make a big difference to high-level characters' hitpoints.

Saving Throws as Defenses miss 1 situation

If you really want this, just have everyone write down their Will/Reflex/Fortitude defenses -10, and then have them roll 1d20 and add that against a static "attack" value. Just because WotC flipped the saves/attacks roll doesn't mean you can't flip it back when you want.

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

Saving throws are unmodified d20 rolls. At the beginning of your turn, you make a saving throw for each negative condition on you. A roll of 11 or higher ends the condition, and a roll of 20 ends all negative conditions on you. (Actually, there will probably be some conditions that aren't...

D&D 4E How should 4E deal with the power of fire?

Your GMs made up some stupid house rules. Stop trying to pretend that this has any relevance to anyone else's game of D&D.

    greater turning for destroy undead

I thought part of the idea behind the variant is that conventional turning is underpowered at higher levels. That the new kind works much better against high-end undead would seem to be a feature, not a bug. Another thing to consider is that many of the items and effects that enhance turning...

    greater turning for destroy undead

Have greater turning only increase the damage on failed saves, and have turn resistance contribute to the save?

Bo9S: mixing and matching disciplines by class

As much as I wanted to have both Iron Heart and Shadow Hand maneuvers on this character, I have to admit that that sounds very sensible.

    Readying Maneuvers (BO9S)

Killing an enemy with a maneuver would activate Cleave, but you would only get a regular melee attack from it. Cleave doesn't say you get to repeat whatever you just did - it just says you get an extra melee attack, so a plain melee attack is all you get. Stances affect all attacks you make...
