Help me run a campaign for a bunch of 12 year olds.

So I'm going to be starting a lunch hour D&D game for a bunch of my 6th grade students. None of them have played before, they're mostly 1st or 2nd generation immigrants, That said, a fair number of them do enjoy fantasy novels, anime shows and the like. I'm going to be running Labyrinth Lord...

    The details in the Devil

I think you could probabably go a long way to turning the tables by leveraging the fact that he owns two of the PC's souls. Charm person at will seems like a good place to start.

    Combat/To-Hit Matrix

Yeah, the weapon vs AC table was intended to further differenciate the weapons. For example, a polarm like a Bec de Corbin was designed quite specifically to crack plate armour so it actually had a bonus to hit lower AC's. Some blunt weapons like maces and the like had bonus' against mid range...

Making a Character in Every Edition of D&D, Part One: 1974

It also means that if you play any of the old school editions of D&D by the book, encumbrance becomes a massive issue. For example if you were carrying between 70 and 105 pounds of gear you were limited to a 6" move. That's only 700-1050 coins. Plate armour, a sword and a shield plus other...

Science Fiction in Your Fantasy Game?

I love it. In my current campaign the PC's are exploring their ancient predecessors version of DARPA using a wild combination of swords, guns ranging from blackpowder muzzle loaders to a magazine fed carbine. One of them has an ancient weapon that when the trigger is depressed emits a shock...

Making a Character in Every Edition of D&D, Part One: 1974

This is a really cool series. I mentioned it in the youtube comments too, but you overlooked an important point when you were talking about the carry weight bonus' that fighters got. OD&D (as well as Holmes, BX and BECMI) measured weight in coins, not pounds. For added fun in AD&D the...

Do you use henchmen in your D&D campaign?

In my Labyrinth Lord game henchmen and hirelings outnumber the PC's... Hell one of them is the 3rd oldest character in the game. He's outlived everyone except the MU who's really good at firing off a fireball and ducking for cover and the thief who never fights.

    Favorite D&D Retroclone?

We use labyrinth lord with some AD&D tacked on. Campaign has been going on for about 4 and a half years now.

Gauging interest in an Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerers of Hyperboria PbP game...

Assorted musings. A bit more about Khromarium. The first bit is largely taken from the AS&SH ref guide, the second is my own take on it. I've also taken liberties with some of the ideas tossed around on blogs, in particular the Hyperborian Chronicals http://hyperboreanchronicles.blogspot.ca/...

Gauging interest in an Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerers of Hyperboria PbP game...

Pretty much what it says on the tin. Just curious to see if anyone might be interested in playing. For those who don't know AS&SH is a retroclone in the same vein as Dungeon Crawl Classics or Lamentations of the Flame Princess (rather than a true clone like Labyrinth Lord or OSIRIC. It's...

    Your favourite non-D&D game?

Shadowrun 100% it's a bit on the complex side, but it is a brilliant setting.

    Leif's 1E AD&D Game OOC

Thanks for the offer, but I might have to bow out. Summer is shaping up to be pretty busy for me.

The City State of Barasbor, A DCC campaign.

Fourth Session March 24, 2013 10:58 As the party gathered their wits after the wild ride through the caves they attempted to get their bearings. As they were in the bottom of a canyon this was more difficult that it first seemed as they could not get a good view of the sun. Jarbosh and...

Leif's "Hold of the Sea Princes" Greyhawk Alpha Game [AD&D 1E] [OOC 01]

Figured I'd shift this over here. One of the key thing's I've found with balancing some of the 'wonkier' classes is that a DM really needs to focus on bringing their alignment and code of conduct restrictions into play. I think a lot of it is also due to the fact that the Druid's XP and spell...

The City State of Barasbor, A DCC campaign.

Sorry for the delay here. Busy couple of weeks for me, but the nice thing is that the 4th session is this afternoon so I should have the next update in a couple days :) I also apologize that the combat isn't quite as detailed as it has been previously. It was a pretty massive fight, and I was...
