Math question for Critical hit house rule

Does this mean that if they hit half the time they're equal? Would either of them be worth a feat, or are they just too weak?

Math question for Critical hit house rule

I would like it to be weaker than WS. I was just hoping that the 'no need to confirm, threat range stays the same' would be better than my current house rule.

    Arcanist - a Sorcerer variant

After giving various spontaneous metamagic mechanics some thought, I've found that I feel the core way of having them take up higher level spell slots is the best way to balance them. Thus, my Sorcerer variant will have to learn and cast metamagic feats the old fashioned way. But each day...

Math question for Critical hit house rule

Thanks a lot! This was without an increase to the threat range, right? Any chance of checking it against my current house rule? (Improves threat range as normal, requires confirmation roll, only multiplies weapon's damage die.) I'm hoping it comes out somewhere between Specialization and the...

Math question for Critical hit house rule

Assuming the thread range stayed the same, I'm not sure what the implications of this would be, but I think that would make it deal too much damage for my purposes.

Math question for Critical hit house rule

Is this assuming that the feat also increases the threat range? The idea was for the threat ranges to remain the same. That is, a Longsword with Improved Critical would crit on all rolls of 19 or 20. (This has the added benefit of letting Imp Crit be different from the Keen effect.)

Math question for Critical hit house rule

I have a house rule where a critical hit only lets you multiply the weapon's damage die. (Whether or not that's a good idea is not the subject of this thread :) ) I know that this severely lessens the worth of the Improved Critical feat, and so far I have reduced the prereq of that feat to...

Do fumbles add anything to the game?

I use the exact same house rule for the same reasons. My consequences for fumbling: If you're armed you drop your weapon in a random adjacent square. If you're unarmed you lose your next action.

    Arcanist - a Sorcerer variant

Maybe my write up isn't quite clear, but that's actually how it's supposed to work. In my revised Spontaneous Metamagic mechanic you actually only get Cha bonus worth of level adjustments to be spend on any metamagic feat. You still know all the (9) metamagic feats, but can only use them a very...

Sean K. Reynolds has already made spell paths for this purpose. Find them here.

    Arcanist - a Sorcerer variant

I'm afraid you're right. Does anyone else have any thoughts on the matter?

    Arcanist - a Sorcerer variant

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it. It's true that my Spontaneous Metamagic isn't as 'clean' as I would like it too be, and that it propably is overpowered too. Khaalis, you're right that the level maximum issue is somewhat clunky. I thought about using the text you quote from Unearthed...

Sorcerer Fix - Continued from "D&D Rules" (PART 2)

As I know that my Arcanist class on the previous page is quite different from your build Khaalis, I've created a new thread for it for those that wish to comment on it, so that this thread may stay on topic. For those of you that have any thoughts on it, please go here. (I even changed the hit...

    Arcanist - a Sorcerer variant

Inspired by some recent threads about the Sorcerer - especially this one by Khaalis - I've tried to come up with a Sorcerer variant of my own. My reasons for changing the core Sorcerer are twofold: 1: Giving them a slight powerboost, and 2: Giving them an unique mechanic (besides spontaneous...

    Greater Masterwork?

I recently saw a reference to 'Greater Masterwork'. Which source is this from? What does it do? (I'm assuming it provides both a damage bonus as well as an attack bonus to weapons, but what about armors?)

Sorcerer Fix - Continued from "D&D Rules" (PART 2)

The idea was for the Arcanist to be able to use all metamagic feats in the way I described it. But, like I said, that may be too powerful and should maybe only apply to a couple of metamagic feats from the beginning. My reasoning for letting those be Still and Silent is that the Sorcerer thus...

Sorcerer Fix - Continued from "D&D Rules" (PART 2)

I've been following this from it's inception, mostly mining it for ideas for my own Sorcerer fix, but in an attempt 'to give something back' I'll comment on some of the issues brought up, as well as presenting my own Sorcerer. Keep in mind that the following is merely my own opinion. First, I...

Sorcerer Fix - Continued from "D&D Rules" (PART 2)

Regarding Meta Magic feats. How unbalanced is it to let the Sorcerer use them without an increase in casting time? How unbalanced is it to let the Sorcerer use the Quicken Spell feat? Here's a quick idea for how to use Meta Magic feats as class abilities for the Sorcerer (whether you have...

Sorcerer Fix - Continued from "D&D Rules" (PART 2)

Khaalis, I've followed your original 'Sorcerer Fix' thread and I've found that it holds a lot of great ideas. While I don't agree with all of them, I has inspired me to start working on my own version of the Sorcerer. While the details of what I'm going to do with the Sorcerer don't belong...
