    D&D 5E (2014) Is Anyone Unhappy About Non-LG Paladins?

Hm, this is an interesting point. So in your campaigns, how does a paladin verify her paladinhood when someone is called upon to arbitrate disputes, and whatnot? Does she carry some kind of signet from The Paladin Order of Fantasy Land? Does she have to do something that only a paladin can do...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Anyone Unhappy About Non-LG Paladins?

I think I understand both sides of the debate more than you think I do, academically if not intuitively. However, you seem to have ignored where I addressed your point: ...Unless you're no longer talking about your Central Issue of definition?

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Anyone Unhappy About Non-LG Paladins?

For you. The definition of the paladin is your central issue. It might seem like others are 'changing the debate' or being disingenuous, but creativity and the freedom to role play always was and is the central issue for us. Definition is malleable, and therefore a non-issue for us.

    D&D 5E (2014) The "tiefling" poll.

Won't be buying 5e and have no particular plans to play it, but fwiw, tiefling origin and appearance are trivial things to change. I've been using Planescape tieflings for years, regardless of what my rulebooks say. In 4e, I even let players choose the energy type associated with their...

D&D 5E (2014) DAOM IS DEAD DEAD DEAD!!!!

Glad I'm not the only one. :D With DoaM -- it was something that required a particular archetype, right? -- I can explain it as "Well, some dudes literally never miss due to their training. It's martial magic." There, problem solved! With AC being entirely independent of level, all I can do is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Anyone Unhappy About Non-LG Paladins?

I'm just going to point out that D&D history is already littered with discarded ideas that 'make D&D distinct,' including quite a few alignment restrictions that were loosened or relaxed even by the 3e era. And yet here we are, enjoying what many old-timers no doubt still regard as 'eroded D&D.'

D&D 4E Is there a "Cliffs Notes" summary of the entire 4E experience?

Oh jeez, I had completely forgotten about the fortune cards! There is a certain breed of gamer for whom there are never enough powers -- it's that breed who play casters in other editions! -- but yeah, I heard about the cards and went "Nope, not in my campaign." Eh, most gamers I've met are...

D&D 5E (2014) DAOM IS DEAD DEAD DEAD!!!!

This controversy is still baffling to me. I mean, I get it, I have a strong simulationist streak and I want rules to 'make sense' within the game world and I want die rolls to represent definite events. But with everything else that makes no sense in D&D, DoaM is the deal-breaker? Does it not...

With 5e here, what will 4e be remembered for?

Yup. Game balance, swashbuckling adventure, and nerdrage!

D&D 5E (2014) Did you participate in the playtest?

I've kept half an eye on 5e since the beginning, but I knew from the start that it was a game meant for a different audience. So I decided that getting involved in the play test would be swimming upstream, and that avoiding it was best for my sanity. The basic rules have confirmed the wisdom of...

D&D 5E (2014) My New Players Have Quit 5th Edition

Wow, no surprise they quit! Good luck with your problem -- I'm sure you'll find a solution in or out of 5e!

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Anyone Unhappy About Non-LG Paladins?

When fighters are dealing a flat 1d6 damage a hit (if I'm remembering the right conversation), and all HD are of the d8 variety? That's the understatement of the week, at least! Talk about combat-as-war!

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Anyone Unhappy About Non-LG Paladins?

That makes sense. It's just hard to imagine oil being an effective weapon, rules-wise. I don't remember oil in 2e, and in 3e...I think it did enough damage to maybe take out a few goblins?

D&D 4E Is there a "Cliffs Notes" summary of the entire 4E experience?

Others have answered your specific questions, so I'll just link you to my Why 4e Fans Love 4e blog post. Hope it helps. :) Wow, that is some serious nerdrage. [/COLOR] Didn't know about that one; I'll have to check it out!

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Anyone Unhappy About Non-LG Paladins?

Didn't think to google it -- didn't realize in fact that people actually copy-paste mag articles on the net! Anyhow, wow, what a blast from the past! My gaming life only goes back to 2e, but A Plethora of Paladins sure has a similar vibe to the 2e stuff I remember -- the implications that LG is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Anyone Unhappy About Non-LG Paladins?

Wow, I gotta say I saw every episode of that show and I've been seeing 'big damn hero' for about six years now, but I never made the connection. Must have blended in with the general swashbuckly fun. Anyhow, do you have something constructive to say, or are you just here to drop snarky comments?

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Anyone Unhappy About Non-LG Paladins?

No kidding! I do like alignment in concept, but it has traditionally stuck its nose in a lot of places it's not needed. Well said, though I suspect that diehard traditionalists will find a way to rationalize this quandary. ;) Was that the article written by that Paizo dude, with the eight...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Anyone Unhappy About Non-LG Paladins?

In other words, you're looking for a level of specificity that I neither want nor impose on my players. A base class is far too big a part of the game to confine to one specific archetype, so I define paladins as I define clerics, with the obvious addendum of "But more fighty than the cleric."...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Anyone Unhappy About Non-LG Paladins?

Yes, yes, we all know that clerics are divine gishes. I even pointed this out using more words during my mistaken conversation with Xodis a few posts back. I guess "clerics study holy texts, paladins practice swordplay" isn't specific enough for the literal-minded, so I apologize. We all know...
