WOTC undecided over OGL/GSL. Why you should care

The difference between our POVs is that my perception of risk is greater than yours. I see a far greater chance than 1% that something bad will happen to the GSL, in great part because something bad (its delay past the point of usefulness during the GenCon launch season) has already happened to...

WOTC undecided over OGL/GSL. Why you should care

Your example isn't specific enough. I happen to know that you are a specialty clothing manufacturer, with a very specific clientele. If a supplier hits you with and increase, or a material spikes upward, then both you and your customers (after you are forced to adjust either prices or stock) are...

Displacement - a bit wussy eh? Mirror image too...

How is this much different than in 3e? Hobgoblin Fighter:"You runty kobold minions attack him first" Minions "But there are 4 of him! How do we know which one to hit?" Hobgoblin Fighter "But your wild waving will frighten away his mirror images, so get poking, pansies!" Minion 1 rolls, hits...

    WoTC Rodney: Economy of actions

You do realize that the easiest fix for this is to let other players control summoned monsters/companions/cohorts, right? The summoner tells the creature what to do (attack that wizard!, grab that McGuffin!, Heal me!) and the controlling player takes care of the specifics. Throw in taking turns...

Points of Light approach to setting

Don't be so quick to dump stuff like this, especially if you don't overuse it. Having a big bad threaten a PoL just by stealing their monster repelling mojo is a good fallback adventure.

Points of Light approach to setting

The easiest way to create PoL setting is to meta-plot in some reasons for the PoL to be safe havens from normal hazards. Example: 400 years ago an empire crumbled, its fall heralded by (or possibly brought about by) the God's displeasure as expressed by a constellation's stars falling to...

Untrue, unless you count fan sites as publishers.

    D&D 4E Your plans for 4e

IIRC, the SRD used for Creature Collection was something of a proto-SRD - more gentleman's agreement than codified license.

WOTC, Scott, Where in the World is the GSL

No worries - my comment wasn't meant as an indictment of either side, and I fully expect any rivalries between the two companies to be friendly in nature. But my comment was meant to highlight the unfortunate reality that the delayed GSL seems to be at fault for the loss of a partnership that...

WOTC, Scott, Where in the World is the GSL

Up until today, Paizo wasn't a competitor for WotC, but rather a complimentary business partner - quite simply, the adventure paths helped sell WotC hardbacks, both before and after the transition from Dungeon to Pathfinder. And while WotC didn't cause themselves real harm with the delay of the...

A dragon can outwit a party of adventurers. Can you?

One thing to remember is that if the PCs are having too easy of a time of things (not taxing their powers to the limit, feeling like their characters lives are really on the line) its entirely OK to simply add more hit points to your big bads. In a fight vs. a dragon, feel free to give the...

How Do You Like the Warlord?

I like the concept of the warlord, and have been playing variations on the theme for a few years now in our 3.5 game (since before the Marshall was printed in the Mini's Handbook). I don't, however, like the specifics. We'll likely gut the class and rebuild it if we decide to play 4e for any...

Electricity: Photvoltaic Technology For A Fantasy World?

Have you seen the movie Stardust (or read the excellent graphic novel by Neil Gaiman)? In it they have an airship (as much a blimp with a sea-going vessel as the gondola) that "fishes" lightning from storm clouds and collects them in something that might be a souped up leyden jar. Collecting...

    Ohio Gameday VII!! 1/19/08!!!

Any word yet on exactly where this is going to take place? I might not be able to make it (the pregnant wife and our existing brood will be commanding my time most likely), but I imagine that a sizable contingent from Dayton might be able to come.

What should WOTC do about Golden Wyvern Adept? (Keep Friendly)

Did you completely skip the part where I said "nomenclature"? If WotC follows the pattern they set in the 3.0 and 3.5 SRD, the only things that will get left out are certain monsters and artifacts - things inextricably tied to the D&D brand. Spells, magic items, etc - these all got the "rename...

What should WOTC do about Golden Wyvern Adept? (Keep Friendly)

There are two possibilities here: either the nomenclature is included in the SRD and 3rd parties can incorporate it (which is not a hindrance), or its not included (in which case its back to business as usual). How is either one "crippling" when the OGL allows specifically for modification of OGC?
