    Please identify these miniatures

Yep. If I remember correctly, those are bearded devils from the initial Planescape days. EDIT: Check here. It's near the bottom of the page, "11-654 Barbazu."

    D&D 5E (2014) Can you see when you're Blinded?

Umbran, your Dad's not blind. He's visually impaired.

    D&D 5E (2014) Crossbow confusion

How would the one-handed hand crossbow interact with the action economy in comparison to a light crossbow? I am envisioning a single sword + hand crossbow fighter (a la the iconic drow) here - does this style improve when using a single-handed crossbow as opposed to light crossbows?

Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

Sagiro, Thank you: * For finishing! Many of my favorites in this forum over the past decade have petered out before the conclusion, but you persevered. * For inspiration! If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, know that I have (and plan to continue to) flattered the hell out of you...

D&D 5E (2014) Wounds and Vitality module, what default mechanics don't fit?

Most of the hue and cry over WP/VP replacements for hit point revolves around this problem (at least as far as I've seen) - crits and sneak attacks go directly to the former. Divorce that mechanic from the whole, or just modify it a bit, and it becomes a more solid alternative. Example: change...

Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

I read that as "Evil Guiness," and began wondering what you had against a nice stout.

Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

If Dranko does develop delusions on grandeur, I'm pretty sure that will be grounds for breaking the deal, which would be very bad for the whole company.

Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

I think it's deeper than that - the thing in Dranko's head may very well be the key here. I think that will happen is that the Adversary will basically "win" and when it does it will tap into Dranko's noggin, whereupon the Cleaners will get the piece of the Adversary that got away in the first...

Do you think the OGL was a good idea?

My sentiments exactly - while Dancey and company cribbed the license structure from GNU, they didn't crib the mechanisms by which they could continue to guide the process. Hindsight is 20/20.

Do you think the OGL was a good idea?

I think this is the important part. The OGL was fabulous for D&D's 3rd edition. It did indeed make sure that it could stay in print and supported (in the form of Pathfinder, though I doubt anyone could have predicted that particular variation). But was it good for D&D as a whole (and more...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next not planning to compete against Pathfinder, Splatbook Hints

Assuming you are right, Misty, it looks like tabletop D&D will be considered the loss leader for the brand. A logical next step would be that we'll end up seeing some pretty serious pushes on toys, movies, and videogames after Next is released.

The only fantasy world map you'll ever need

This thread needs less angst over kitchen sink settings and more stories about how metal the Mammoth Tribes are. I'm seriously considering starting my next campaign in Big Crimey Crapsack, with several side treks to Fancy Magic Town.

parchment golem! ( Yes I am crazy)

The first thing that popped into my head when I read this thread was "these would be so much better if they were made of spell scrolls, and could cast whatever spells were scribed on their attendant parchment-y parts.

That was my thought ever since the "well at least we won't have to worry about Tapheon down here!" quote.

D&D 3.x Your take on Mirror Image, 3.0 or 3.5

Yoink! I've always envisioned mirror image as a bunch of copies of the caster that move independently, constantly shifting in and out of the caster's true position in order to confuse an attacker. Having a 3rd level version that simply increases the area of effect of the spell (the area in...

A Rift in Our Group - "Quickness" and "Deflection" Spells are Ruining Savage Worlds' Combat

One of the table-policies I've adhered to over the years is respecting Mutually Assured Destruction. For example, I don't make baddies Scry/Buff/Teleport, or cast Disjunction, or equally nasty combinations unless the players cut loose with it first (after which it's fair game). Have you thought...

D&D 3.x Wow! Look at this awesome new unofficial 3E news site!

Eric - Thanks for starting this thing rolling. Russ - Thanks for keeping it alive. I don't think I can repay either of you for what this community you founded and fostered has meant to me.

    Biggest Franchises Without an RPG

I'm not sure this is still "common knowledge" around here, but Leverage isn't as much of a surprise once you remember that John Rogers (the co-creator/showrunner/producer) was a gamer before he was Hollywood bound. Heck, he is in fact one of our own. So Leverage as an RPG was a great fit.
