Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

Sagiro’s Story Hour, Part 294 With Friends Like These The results of Tomnic's commune, to questions on the topic of the Null Shadow cauldron, are moderately useful: the thing is in the northeast quadrant of the city, and underground. Relatedly, Marigold's sending scroll had nothing to do...

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

Huh. Yeah, looks like you're right. Though since Piratecat also was making the wrong assumption, he probably would have bumped the DC's up by 2 had we been using the rules as written.

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

Played again last night – run #18, I think. We're all 4th level. I'll leave the plot stuff to Piratecat and make some brief comments on the tactical stuff: The game's action consisted of a large skill challenge, followed by a small one, followed by a combat vs. the Big Boss of the current...

I agree with you -- but that's the conclusion my players came to after reviewing the answers.

Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

Sagiro’s Story Hour, Part 293 Dead Boring Midnight in Kallor. The perpetual twilight of the day has given way to a sky bright with stars and a nearly full moon. On such short notice only a few clergy from out of town have arrived to witness history: Milanwy and Clariel from Tal Hae along...

Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

Sagiro’s Story Hour, Part 292 Regarding Praska A sickly green mist hangs in the air, all that is left of the departed Null Shadows. Morningstar sits down heavily against a wall and thinks hard about the voice she heard in the thought capture. It was female, she’s almost certain, and vaguely...

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

I thought it was a well-balanced, exciting battle, and didn't feel any grind at all, personally. Some tactical notes: - It took us a little while to really figure out how the damage-reassignment was working among the myconids. (Was it distance based? Could all of them do it, or only some...

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

Run #14 was this past Thursday. First, the plot summary: Having escaped from the Tide of Sklar, and anxious to return to Floodford, we started the boat journey back. There was some discussion about what to do with our prisoner Xiras, rescued from Aline’s weird spirit-siphoning ritual. He...

Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

I can now reveal the reason I haven't been working on my Story Hour these last few months. I've been working on this: A little side project But now that I'll have more free time, documenting the continuing adventures of Abernathy's Company is back on the docket, along with a number of other...

    Setting Arrows on Fire

How about something like: if there's an adequate source of fire within one square, take a move action to light the arrow. A burning arrow does half its damage as fire damage. That way its base damage is no different, but it's useful against targets that are vulnerable to fire.

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

Last night’s game -- #13 of the campaign – was extremely exciting despite a complete lack of traditional combats. It was all about the skill challenges! But first, the plot summary: We had ended the previous game in the Bubbling Fens, one-time gathering place of lizard man forces, and...

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

Summary of Run #11: Before heading out into the swamp on our scout-and-harass mission, Logan and Caldwell spent a day using our new alchemy lab to brew up some goodies – which I see Piratecat has already listed above. While the rest of us waited, a couple of boats arrived in Floodford from...

3.5 high level woes and Paizo's hand in it.

While these are good ideas, my worries aren't really about at-the-table logistics, but adventure design in general. My party of mostly-spellcaster 19th level PC's has reached the point where they can pretty much do anything they want at any time, so it takes increasingly long to design...

You misspelled "entirely." :D According to the DMG, a party that has just hit 3rd level should have 1,760 GP worth of monetary treasure. And the lizardmen stole HALF OF IT. So, yeah, we feel a bit poor at the moment.

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

Last night was Run #10 of Piratecat’s Grey Guard campaign. It was another role-playing-heavy and combat-light game; this entry will be briefer than most. After an afternoon and evening of R&R, we were given the assignment of interrogating Scrit (the Governor’s treasonous secretary). They had...

(I apologize for any typos and formatting errors -- I'm posting this at 1:30 A.M. at the end of a long week. PCat and you other players, chime in if I've forgotten anything.) So, for Session #9, we picked up in the Floodford Armory, where a small lizardman force had snuck in via water-gate and...

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

(Note: I've dashed this off in a hurry. Apologies in advance for typos and sloppy writing.) We played again on Thursday – our 8th session of the campaign – and managed to get into a lot more trouble than I think any of us expected. I'm not quite sure why no one has died yet -- especially...

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

(My usual disclaimer about missing or incorrect details applies doubly this time, as I’m writing up the summary a day late. Thanks to Piratecat for providing a short summary to jog my memory.) So, there we were, still holed up in a mostly-submerged tower, while a...

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

Hoo boy. We’ll call this, our sixth session, “Tower Defense.” A couple of notes before I describe the session: 1. I’m a total doofus. We hit second level at the end of last run, and I eagerly updated my sheet almost the very next day. I picked “Nimble Blade” as my new feat. And then I...
