I think the health/damage system is far more biased than stats. Many attacks, in other systems, would be shrugged off by front-liners. Whereas D&D just keeps eating HP which adds up quickly at low-to-mid levels. Con Saves to simply avoid or take-half of a certain amount of damage would do...

LOL. Mine is other people breathing about D&D near me. Yuck. While I do love paladins and clerics as npcs in games I run, I rarely play them. I played a paladin of Zuoken in a short playbypost game recently, which was fun, but they are too specific for me as a class, I think.

Also, it's hard to make the players care about laborer losses, unless there aren't enough to go around and each one is vital and has a personal relationship with the party. Many real-world executives see laborer losses simply as numbers to replace and I can't imagine a busy adventuring PC...
