    D&D 4E Ideas for 4E tweaks

Yes, but it should be usable for a while, and they can retrain when they are finding it isn't as useful anymore. And it is still good against non-Minions. Also, my rules added an intermediate stage between full-strength monsters and minions: Lesser monsters. All the same rules and stats as...

    D&D 4E Ideas for 4E tweaks

In the rules I posted above, you'll see that I had a very simple method for allowing Minions to last a while longer... they have Resilience, a form of DR. It works the same as Hardness, it reduces all damage they suffer by that amount. If there is still 1 (or more) points of damage left over...

Simplified Daily Item Usage and Action Point Tracking

I tried to keep it simple: Milestones – Remove Milestones from the game. Instead, all characters get 1 Action point that may be used once per Encounter. Magic items do not require Milestones to be charged, a character may simply use the powers at their stated frequency. To prevent a golf bag...

    D&D 4E Ideas for 4E tweaks

Thank you! Yeah, I wish they'd left Feather Me Yon Oaf in, and decided to put it back in myself as a ranged version of Commander's Strike, so that a Warlord can work well with a mostly ranged party, not just the melee party members. For the Half Elves, I thought of it this way: They could get...

    D&D 4E Ideas for 4E tweaks

Here's the latest version of rules changes for my game. Much of it is taken directly from the errata (most of the power and skill changes, for instance. I figured it was easier to have 1 document of changes, rather than 1 errata sheet and 1 house rules sheet, so I combined them.) But other...

ENworlder: How long have you been gaming?

I don't know if it would work today. The world has changed, and with anime, computer games, ipods, and so many other things grabbing for kids' attention, old fashioned pen and paper RPGs may just not cut it for many of today's kids anymore. Sure, some will pick it up and join the hobby, but...

What would it take for 4E to win over the old guard? (Forked Thread: Changeover Poll)

Look, you don't know me. As I said before, EVERY game I own that I actually care about (and I own dozens and dozens of different systems) I tinker with and make house rules for. The more I like the game, the more I delve into it, study the options and math behind them, and start coming up with...

What would it take for 4E to win over the old guard? (Forked Thread: Changeover Poll)

No, Herschel, you aren't correct. I don't "hate 4e". In fact, I've bought not only the 3 core books, but 6 of the splat books for it as well. Why do that if I hate it? I do think it needs some work, but I say that about every game. However, this thread is a fork off of the other thread, in...

What would it take for 4E to win over the old guard? (Forked Thread: Changeover Poll)

Sadly, I agree the 3PP part seems unlikely. However, I think WotC doing a 4e Unearthed Arcana isn't very far-fetched....

What would it take for 4E to win over the old guard? (Forked Thread: Changeover Poll)

Many people have pointed out that they'd like massive changes, enough that they are extremely unlikely for WotC to do, enough that "4e is no longer 4e". Well, that may not be something that WotC wants to do, but if there were a very permissive GSL or OGL for 4e, it's certainly something 3PP...

What would it take for 4E to win over the old guard? (Forked Thread: Changeover Poll)

Well, the great majority of OD&D/1e/2e fans did convert to 3e. We did, everyone I know did. I've been playing RPGs 29 years, and bought into 3.x more heavily than any other game system, ever. 4e hasn't had the same impact though, especially with the other players in our group. I've at least...

What would it take for 4E to win over the old guard? (Forked Thread: Changeover Poll)

Just wanted to say that I didn't mean to exclude anyone with the "old guard" comment... all are welcome to answer! As for my own opinion, the Advanced Players Guide with 4e versions of classic character classes is already out and I own it, but that wasn't enough to convince our group to play...

    Changeover Poll

Well said, Merelycompetent. I just want to point you and everyone else to a new thread and poll I forked off this thread... What would it take to win you (and other old-timers) over to 4E, if anything...

What would it take for 4E to win over the old guard? (Forked Thread: Changeover Poll)

Forked from: Changeover Poll I forked this over from the Changeover Poll thread, which seems to show that a great deal of the old time hardcore gamers have not embraced 4E as much as once thought. So the inevitable question is: What (if anything) could 4E do to win people over?

    Changeover Poll

I think what that poll shows is that ENWorlders tend to be the very committed, long-time gamers, dedicated to this hobby, with loads of experience in gaming. By and large, not many part-time, casual, or newbie gamers here. I wonder if the hardcore gamers are too important a demographic to...

29 years for me... I started at the age of 8.

    Changeover Poll

I really don't think you need 1000 votes. First of all, there's no guarantee that it's the same 1000 people... in fact, it definitely won't be. Second, this poll fails to account for 1 important group... those who were excited about 4e's release and looked at ENWorld when it first came out...

    Changeover Poll

I voted "never played 4e, still playing older edition." That said, I have bought several 4e books (the core books, the 2 Forgotten Realms books, Martial Power, and Manual of the Planes). While there are many flaws in 4e, I would like to play it someday, and reading the books is interesting...

Advanced Players Guide vs. Forgotten Heroes

After checking out the preview pages for both, and reading up on how they decided to handle the classes and some specific design choices, I bought APG. Not having seen the full retail FH, I can't really say for sure which is better, but I really like the APG now that I've read it.

    Why be an archer ranger?

I've declared that the Prime Shot Ranger class feature is only given to Archery Rangers, and that it is what balances the off-hand weapon size bonus that melee rangers get.
