    D&D 4E The Dispensible 4E

What would a critical hit with a sword be otherwise? I mean, in most cases it doesn't kill you, or even make you start dying. So "a critical hit with a sword" obviously can't be something like being stabbed through the heart. It's an injury that you survive but that weakens your ability to...

    Write this game for adults

And thank goodness they don't! I was never a fan of Gygax's rambling writings. I realize that some people might enjoy it -- because they imagine that they're Gary Gygax's good buddy, perhaps, and he's writing "just to me!!!1!" -- but it's not a style that I'd like to see again in D&D manuals...

    Write this game for adults

Why? Lower writing level means it's easier for everyone to understand. This reminds me too much of Monte Cook's ideas about "system mastery." It's a kind of false elitism that really doesn't belong in the game.

Apart from being drivel (and I don't disagree with you), it's also written at 11th grade level, which is amusing given how many people think 4th edition was written for 5th graders. :)

    Write this game for adults

Just so you know, what you wrote here was rated at grade level 7.58 and a Fog Index of 9.15. So, no, what you wrote wasn't hard to understand. Because it wasn't even up to 8th grade reading levels. Look it up here: Tests Document Readability My point, of course, is not that you are a poor...

I call shenanigans. Harry Potter is immensely popular, including with 8th graders, and it's written at 5th to 7th grade level. You are simply wrong.

How Do you Feel About Healing Surges? (Read First!)

A lot of people seem to use "healing surge" as a focus for their dislike of everything related to 4e healing. I think that may be because they haven't played the game and don't understand how the different subsystems related to healing work together.

How Do you Feel About Healing Surges? (Read First!)

Healing surges don't do that. Did you read the first post before replying?

How Do you Feel About Healing Surges? (Read First!)

I like the fixed chunk of hit points for healing powers, but I am not so crazy about the limit on number of surges per day.

    Write this game for adults

I hate it when people pull out their "I'm sooooo smart" egos and start talking about things like "this was written at a certain grade level" to justify how special and smart and genius they are. The truth is, it's easy to write convoluted stuff that is at "a higher grade level," and it's harder...

    D&D 5E (2014) Of Fighters and Sammiches

I just overlooked the incorrect statements about editions you don't care for. I'm getting pretty bored with edition warring nonsense and just filter it out as noise. Won't kill me if you're just wrong. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2

Why do all classes have to be balanced?

Because it's a game, and games are generally better when they're fair. A game isn't fair if it presents, say, 6 options to players and half of them are really bad choices.

"Partially clothed females FTW" screams "immature teenager" more than anything in 3.x or 4e's rulebooks that I've read.

Public D&D Playtests To Begin On May 24th

I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying that it's unlikely they would have given us 30 days notice (why that number? why bother with a pre-announcement at all?) today if not for needing to put out some good news about 5e. Do you really think that they were planning to announce the open playtest...

Public D&D Playtests To Begin On May 24th

I'm surprised they put a date on it this far out. It seems to me that they needed to do something to reassure the public that the sky isn't falling due to Monte's departure, and so they announced the start of the public playtest. Otherwise, I suspect they might have kept the exact date private...
