Return old-school terminology: subclass, demihuman, etc.

"Racial variant" is probably a better term.

D&D 5E (2014) Dear 5e design team: Please research earlier editions

I want them to learn from the past, not repeat it. There are a lot of terrible things in those old books that should be left back in the 20th century.

    20 levels of Race?

    God, I hope not.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Blog: Beyond Class & Race

Innnnnteresting. The "themes" implementation he describes is pretty much the "vocations" rule from D&D Gamma World. I heartily approve of them stealing stuff from Gamma World.

Turns and Rounds - relooking at exploration

But why is 10 minutes the unit of measurement for "exploration mode" (other than that's the way it was 30 years ago)?

Turns and Rounds - relooking at exploration

How is a turn like a square? Is the game set up to only allow increments of 10 minutes? In D&D 4e (and 3e), you can't move 17 1/2 feet or something like that.

    Falling from Great Heights

So if the character has previously sipped such poison, and didn't die, and has an in-character reason to know that he probably won't die from doing it again, that's still "metagaming"? By in-world logic, player characters of sufficiently high level should know that they're fairly immune to...

    Falling from Great Heights

Surely the poison is just the same, though, whether you willingly ingest it or not. Are you saying you believe that the lethality of poisons should be based on the intent of the victim?

D&D 5E (2014) Lolth in D&D Next and Setting Hopping

I'm in favor of anything where Lolth is the big bad.

D&D 5E (2014) Lolth in D&D Next and Setting Hopping

Except her name in Forgotten Realms is still "Lolth."

D&D 5E (2014) Lolth in D&D Next and Setting Hopping

No, it's Lolth in Forgotten Realms as well. "Lloth" is a misspelling that they've retroactively canonized as "the Drow spelling of her name" but her name was always meant to be "Lolth."

    Hex or grid?

I don't understand why you need hexes at all on large maps. I remember the Al-Qadim maps from 2e; they had no hexes on the map, but had a clear overlay with hexes on it. That seemed reasonable.

    Falling from Great Heights

On drinking poison being auto-death. Okay, so if I say "I am going to drink this bottle of poison" and do so, then I die, right? But if I say "I am going to drink this potion of healing" but it actually also contains a poison, I get a saving throw to avoid dying? If I say "I eat this apple"...

D&D 5E (2014) Lolth in D&D Next and Setting Hopping

I hate it when people misspell her name. She isn't "yoth", she's "Lolth."

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Lingua Franca, or 5e really, REALLY needs to create it's own new "space"

I know! Let's call them exploits! ... ... ... Oh, you said that already.

    Rogue/ranger or rogue/warlock

Diversity is somewhat useful, but properly taking advantage of multiclassing or hybrids requires a lot of system mastery; otherwise you just end up with a few options that don't work well together. (The advantage of staying within a class is that generally speaking, the class features, powers...

Why do you want to multiclass into something?
