D&D 5E (2024) I am highly skeptical of the Unreal VTT

I am mainly being sceptical (and, perhaps, somewhat cynical) due to the fact that AAA video gaming is in a complex, somewhat negative state. There are a lot of excellent AAA games out there and still being released, but a lot of the industry in that space is downright releasing some pretty poor...

D&D 5E (2024) What do you think One D&D will do to the VTT industry?

I'm not sure WoTC will pull off their VTT, but having used Talespire, a 3D semi-VTT (in terms of playing maps - it doesn't have automation on the level of something like Foundry), the concept can work. But it takes a lot of work.

D&D 5E (2024) I am highly skeptical of the Unreal VTT

I had forgotten BG3 had controller support. I guess that could work. It just seems unnatural, and potentially slower? Especially for DMs. But it would probably be alright for players.

D&D 5E (2024) I am highly skeptical of the Unreal VTT

I expect they will try to bring it to consoles, but it sounds nightmarish in terms of controls for some actions. Not impossible, but not straightforward either. Ironically the Switch could handle controls very easily via the IR sensor IF it had the horsepower to power the actual game.

Pathfinder 2E Humble RPG Bundle: Pathfinder Second Edition Strength of Thousands by Paizo

I don't want to continue the offtopic chain too much more, as it feels too many conversations in this part of the forum devolve into this comparison or discourse about PF2e success (in comparison to the PF2e subreddit, Paizo forums, and other general RPG forums), but it does sadden me how often...

    D&D 5E (2024) Postmortem: 10 Ideas in 5e that didn't quite work...

This is what Pathfinder 2e, though they go further and make it so that most ranged weapons don't add bonuses to damage from STR automatically, and it takes either feats or specific weapons to do that iirc. However, it should be noted that Pathfinder 2e's ability score system is very different...

D&D 5E (2024) I am highly skeptical of the Unreal VTT

Well, more features is always more hardship - in both development and maintenance. Granted, top-down cameras and lower-detailed maps and tokens probably would not be difficult to add and maintain (in fact I'm guessing their camera is going to be like Talespire and simply and easily under player...

    D&D 5E (2024) DM's no longer getting crits on PC's

Yeah; this is why the playtest frustrates me right now. It feels a bit too much that things are being released piecemeal to generate hype and discussion but not to get the exact feedback required to create a better game, as we're getitng horizontal and not vertical slices. I'm worried that they...

Jamison Stone & Satine Phoenix's Apotheosis Studio To Wind Down [UPDATED]

Unsure if you are being unironic or not, but I do think this may become necessary, or indeed has been necessary all along and Kickstarter has mostly gotten away with it; I do think there should be consequences for those acting in clear bad faith and, while full refunds may not be appropriate or...

Jamison Stone & Satine Phoenix's Apotheosis Studio To Wind Down [UPDATED]

TBF, I feel this is less of a standard failure (some peopel are mentioning the Ouya, which came out and was delivered to backers, so I feel that's not what I would classify as a failure during the Kickstarter process), and more so a complete lalck of transparency and lies. It's not like there...

Jamison Stone & Satine Phoenix's Apotheosis Studio To Wind Down [UPDATED]

Yeah; they need to really reconsider that one, especially in cases like this.

Jamison Stone & Satine Phoenix's Apotheosis Studio To Wind Down [UPDATED]

Kickstarter needs to get involved and force a refund. They do not want this PR nightmare as well considering other issues they have been facing. It's such an easy slam dunk as well considering nobody wants to work with these two abusers either.

The 5 Stages of New Edition Grief

This seems to be true for online based games that you CAN find a game. Obviously harder for old editions, but if we're talking about D&D in particular - which I would assume that this post is made in response to, considering recent events - it seems Roll 20 and other VTTs have a lot of random...

D&D 5E (2024) Which races would YOU put into the 50th anniversary Players Handbook?

Elves Dwarves Halfings Gnomes Orcs Goblins Tabaxi Tieflings Aasimar Kenku Kobolds Lizardfolk Dragonborn No humans. Just no. Never again pls. Just homerule in the boring whitebread if you want For serious reasons, I think it'd be a much more interesting game if humans were a rare or not...

    D&D 5E (2024) DM's no longer getting crits on PC's

It's so difficult to tell. I want ot say I am against it because I've seen crits be used well in other games and I think it is a positive thing in the game at levels beyond one and two However, this is not a full playtest document, it's only outlining some changes. We need to see moonsters and...

D&D 5E (2024) What PHB races should have darkvision?

I voted no, with a caveat: I think that you should be able to get darkvision but only with features or at later levels. Instead, maybe start out with low-light vision (can see in dim light as if it were bright light) and have that expand to darkvision later on. The distinction between those...

D&D 5E (2024) It feels so much like the D&D Next playtest did

I'm not sure if I should provide any feedback as I do not plan to operate in the 5e space, and if I do it will probably be through Level Up 5e or as a player. But it is going to be interesting to see how much things ultimately contrast between playtest and release. My understanding and...

D&D 5E (2024) I am highly skeptical of the Unreal VTT

I don't trust Wizards to be very consumer friendly with their VTT considering I think Paizo's complete openness of rules and options minus fluff is significantly more friendly to everyone. Mind, Paizo is the exception compared to every other company, but I hope that they would set a standard...

    D&D 5E (2024) Auto-succeed/fail on ability checks

I am disappointed that this could indicate that 5.5e will not adopt Pathfinder 2e's four degrees of success model, which is, in my opinion, one of the stronger parts of the system, that allows much more flexibility in effects and powers. Granted of course you cannot add that without causing...

D&D 5E (2024) Make the most outrageous claim about One

One D&D will temporarily change sales figures for new books, but numbers will otherwise go back to normal, and may cause a ridiculous panic among some in WoTC who think only of numbers without context.
