If you don't mind a historical fantasy setting and some sci-fi elements, Northern Crown has some pretty detailed rules about cultural differentiation. All of the cultural bonuses are added in addition to normal human traits and reward class choices more for culturally preferred classes.
I see only one fencing feat, but it works basically the way you described. There's a Greatsword and Polearm feat that allows you to get a shield AC bonus and use the weapon as a double weapon, among other things though. There's also various feats that allow you to do special things with guns...
IIRC, in Dungeon #100, the adventure that detailed the return of the red dragon Flame began with a cult of kobold that worshipped dragons.
The kobold sorcerer lich and his city of golems as detailed in Villains might be a inspiration for more adventures.
I would think it would depend on who the new person is (their experience with similar game forms, etc.) and the goals of the group and the player. Does the player really want to know the ins and outs of the system? Does the player just want to play for social reasons or to have something to...
I've also been wanting to run a alternate/fantasy/pseudo historical game. My problem is, like the otheres above, I'm not the best history person in the world, and I'm afraid of not doing the past justice in portraying it in a game. A lot of the terms and lingo we use today for past events and...
Use creatures that can follow the PCs wherever they go. Many demons/devils/etc. can greater teleport all day long.
Make the goals of the game to defend something that can't be teleoported. Whole cities or villages, large cites of magical wonder (and power), etc. If the PCs up and leave, the...
Actually, back in Dragon 289 (November 2001), there was an article on making a D&D game resembling Wuxia films, with several rules and sugguestions, like everybody getting to fly at 10th level. FYI, it's also the issue with the kaiju.
Hmm... There's a lot of thing about Dragonlance I like (tinker gnomes, Lord Soth, etc) and a few things I don't particularly care for (kender), so I wouldn't mind playing in a Dragonlance game. I haven't really read any of the novels and don't know much about the overall metaplot or greater...
I modified and ran it for higher level characters, but all the players had a real blast with it. They loved it enough to call Freeport the permanent homebase for their characters. I remember the climax in the final module at was really tough, even though I didn't modify it that much from the...
And here's the palimpsest. Again from MC Annual vol. II. I think it was also in one of the Volo books, perhaps the Guide to All Things Magical?
Palimpsest
Diminutive Construct
Hit Dice: 1d10 (5 hp)
Initiative: +1 (Dex)
Speed: 10 ft.
AC: 15 (+1 Dex, +4 size)
Base Attack/Grapple: +0/-10
Attack...
Yep. I ran and converted it a while ago. I reccommend the module, there's a lot a person can do with hit. The dungeon design is unique and so are its denezins. I could send you the conversion notes if they would be useful.
If you're taking requests, I'd love to see an article of J'zzalshrak...
There's been many good ideas in this thread. I'd be interested in seeing the rest of SSS-Druid's stuff; it's sad that it is not going to be published.
There's very little that I can add. I’ve studied and read a little bit about it, but I'm no expert. But here's what I can give off the top of...
There are some great ideas here. The celestial makes for a moral as well as a practical conundrum.
I like the idea of the apocalypse stemming from human hands. Perhaps the crawling horror is not some otherwordly entity but in fact a ever-encroaching or consuming humanity. The ravaging threat...
FYI, the Denizens of Darkness 3E Ravenloft book has stats for a number of magical figurines that were originally made in Sri Raji (basically act like smaller golem variants), but not the information on how to make them. For that, you would probably have to look at the old 2E Ravenloft Monstrous...
There's an Indian domain in Ravenloft, Sri Raji (in the Verduous Lands cluster). It has a two page or so description in the Ravenloft Player's Handbook, and there's a tiny description of a two-member pantheon for said domain. The 2E module Web of Illusion features Sri Raji in more detail.
As...
I'll second the monster chapter, the new abilities each have their own CR modifiers, almost like templates. The monsters are fairly interesting (such as lost boys who drain the youth of their victims, brutes who seem awefully a lot like Lurch, wooden people that wear strange masks they use to...
