Skill challenges - who else likes them as the core non-combat sub-system?

I second this, its an especially good example of how to integrate a skill challenge into combat. I adapted "Dead by Dawn" to my campaign and it worked out great. My PCs managed to spectacularly fail all of the skill challenges, so they were hard-pressed and pretty demoralized by the end (it...

Why is/was melee training so bad?

Most obvious needs, unless you're playing a feat-starved changeling that is :), are quickly filled by Dragon articles (if not actual sourcebooks). I expect that changing something that affects existing classes and is an easy fix will results in some no brainer feats or MBA powers being quickly...

Skill challenges - who else likes them as the core non-combat sub-system?

I really like the concept of skill challenges, and like 4e monsters, I feel that after 2 years of play experience, they're design is steadily improving (better integration into encounters, differing levels of success or failure, unique set-ups, more interesting consequences, etc.)

Why is/was melee training so bad?

Its hard for me to get angry by this change as within a couple of months, each of the affected classes will likely either get a class specific feat like Intelligent Blademaster or a MBA at-will.

Do Premier Stores (U.S.) have Dark Sun Yet?

Pegasus Games in Madison, Wisconsin got part of their shipment last night with more coming on Monday. No Psionic Power that I could see.

    Dark Sun! I have them!

Does the campaign setting cover any areas of Athas beyond the Tyr Region, even briefly?

No buzz for the 2011 Campaign Setting?

IMO, they may have bought those settings, but I don't think they've sat on them for 5-6 years. Their best ideas have probably already been re-purposed; for example, the Aerenal elves were originally from Rich Burlew's setting.

So you wanna write an adventure, eh?

I wrote "Oasis of the Golden Peacock" and "Treed!" Gloomshroud, there's no template (well at least one wasn't provided to me) since the conversion to 4e, but if you can find a copy of their 3.5e guidelines, it included a word document template of how they originally wanted to see encounters...

    Dark Sun! I have them!

That makes a lot of sense since they're the most portable and popular race coming out of DS (I think its interesting that they're introducing kalashtar to Athas, as its a nice way to expand them beyond Eberron and makes me wonder how they'll introduce a more generalized mul). I have an...

No buzz for the 2011 Campaign Setting?

I think we'll eventually see Greyhawk and Dragonlance, but not this year (though I may be totally wrong, we'll see next weekend, and if I was going to guess which one would go first, I'd go with Greyhawk). I think beyond the Nentir Vale and other PoL setting elements (please, oh please, release...

Demonomicon, ToH, Orcs of Stonefang Pass and Vor Rukoth in hand

I'm about 50% of the way through ToH and I have to say, I'm very impressed with the traps and hazards in the adventure. I'm not sure if I'll ever run it but consider many of those traps yoinked when my campaign hits the paragon tier.

So you wanna write an adventure, eh?

Are you familiar with the published 4e or Dungeon adventures? They have a pretty standardized format, but when I wrote my Dungeon adventures I was encouraged to look to them for guidance.

Do You Plan To Use Essentials In Your Game (No '4.5 Edition Sucks' Plz, Kthx)

You betcha. I'll definitely be using stuff from the Monster Vault, as well as the tile sets and Rules Compendium. Players will also be free to use any content from the books once its in the Character Builder and I'll probably use some of those builds for my own characters.

I'm hoping that the Winning Races: Eladrin article is the one I wrote!

    Abyssal Plague...

Maybe its because I was reading the Demonomicon last night, but I'm going with the Queen of Chaos and/or the Queen's Conclave (the end of the 1000 year cycle is imminent). Obyriths for the win!

Demonomicon, ToH, Orcs of Stonefang Pass and Vor Rukoth in hand

What, the archer fish were awesome! Personally, I think that 4e needs more giant animals. I was paging through my copy of the Demonomicon and noticed something interesting, baernaloths are in 4e, but in such a way that Shemmy's head is sure to explode. :)

They did actually do this in Dragon for controllers.

    Psionics: Yea or Nay?

IMO, the overall PHB3 psionic system is fine and balanced, the problems are specifically with some of the lower level powers. There's a couple of heroic tier powers, such as the psion's dishearten and mind thrust that are too good because they combine a scaling penalty tied to the classes'...

    D&D 5E (2014) Essentials: More like 3.9e than 4.5e (link inside)

Did I miss something? When did we get confirmation that martial characters were going to be "simple" or that having no dailies actually means simple? It seems pretty clear to me that the newb-friendliness of the Essentials line comes from having pre-made packages of abilities, clearer...

Tomb of Horrors, Demonomicron, and more @ Premiere FLGS

I took a look at the Demonomicon today at our FLGS and it looks really cool, I can't wait to get it from Amazon (I did buy the two softcover releases from the game store though). From my cursory examination, there's more than just the obyriths brought back into 4e. For one, Malchanthet is...
