D&D 5E (2014) Full feats from Tasha's: are they worth a "full feat slot"?

This. A thousand times this. The 5E feat system is broken, or more accurately, a wasted system. There are a ton you can choose from but the vast majority of feats will not only ever be taken, but not even considered. It's an illusion of choice and wasted design. The feat system has multiple...

D&D 5E (2014) What is up with the popularity of watching other D&D groups play the game?

Agreed, I don't get it either. I'd like to say it's a generational thing but I know a lot of grognards gamers my age that do like it. I haven't analyzed it too much but I think for me it's because it's not competitive. I used to play wargames fairly competitively and I would watch other people...

D&D 5E (2014) Spell Versatility is GONE. Rejoice!

All the classes can already do it when they level-up. It's not a big deal. If the group is trying to constantly take long rest to custom-tailor their spells for every encounter, then I'm going to step in and say no. But if a player is unhappy with a choice and wants to swap something out once...

D&D General A different style of medieval fantasy game?

This is exactly SW. I highly recommend Beasts & Barbarians, Lankhmar, and Solomon Kane.

D&D General A different style of medieval fantasy game?

Are you look for a variant that uses the D&D ruleset? There are definitely other non-level-based systems that do fantasy well. Savage Worlds immediately comes to mind. SW is great for sword & sorcery especially.

D&D General Do you allow "crossplaying" at your table? Has it ever caused problems?

I allow it. Never been an issue. That said, I generally prefer people play the same gender, but that's only because I've never seen a male do any justice to a female character. Certainly hasn't been any issues of sexism or anything like that, the characters just haven't been that interesting. 🤷‍♂️

    D&D General Single class party?

Yes! A thousand times yes! Even better if they are all halfling bards.

D&D 5E (2014) Removing Concentration From Smite Spells, Including Spells like Ensnaring Strike?

The more I think about it, the more I like the reaction-casting mechanic. It's so much cleaner design than bonus action & concentration, which is clunky and results in an entire group of spells going unused. It makes sense that the devs were hesitant to expand on reaction spells at launch and...

D&D 5E (2014) Removing Concentration From Smite Spells, Including Spells like Ensnaring Strike?

I really like this. On a hit, spend a spell slot for the effect. Done.

D&D 5E (2014) Removing Concentration From Smite Spells, Including Spells like Ensnaring Strike?

Remove concentration. They NEVER get used. So what if a paladin wants to stack them? Spend multiple spell slots and rounds in a row casting? Big deal. Keep the range of Self and 1 minute duration. The paladin gets a big hit on one enemy.

    D&D 5E (2014) Spellbook Rituals (a new Wizard feature)

Huh? It's a way for sorcerers to regain some relevancy compared to wizards. I love it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Alternate Ranger

Here's an abbreviated list of my ranger changes: Deft Explorer You are an unsurpassed explorer and survivor. Choose one of the following benefits, and then choose another one at 6th, 10th, and 15th level. Canny Choose one skill: Animal Handling, Athletics, History, Insight, Investigation...

    D&D 5E (2014) Alternate Ranger

Also, I get rid of spells known with extreme prejudice; rangers cast and select spells like the paladin/cleric/druid.

    D&D 5E (2014) Alternate Ranger

Any ranger revision has to address Natural Explorer and Favored Enemy. No other class requires the player to choose an option that is completely contingent on the DM/campaign as to whether they will be able to use. Even then, those abilities aren't that great. You didn't address either. Use...

D&D 5E (2014) It's official, WOTC hates Rangers (Tasha's version of Favored Foe is GARBAGE)

Agreed. It's annoying. I also agree with your take on this change. It also replaced the UA Favored Foe with a more complicated and convoluted mechanic. Between the Revised Ranger and Class Variant UAs, I have all that I need to fix the ranger.

D&D General Need help formulating a new campaign

This! Don't create plot. The PCs are the protagonists. When they interact with the events, scenarios, and NPCs they interact with, the result is plot. Determine what the goal of the lich/cult is and what will happen if their plan goes unchallenged. Create events/rumors/locations that the...

    D&D General What's your favorite beer'n'pretzles dungeon?

Check out some of the 3ed Necromancer modules. I love 'em: Lost City of Barakus, Vault of Larrin Karr, Tomb of Abysthor. You could also run Rapan Athuk but not sure I would call it a "beer 'n pretzels" dungeon per se - it's a meat grinder.

D&D General Adventures into the multiverse

Haha no, it currently exists as notes on my phone that I quickly wrote so I wouldn't forget. 🤦‍♂️
