    D&D 5E (2014) Boosting Sorcerers, Focus: Fun (+thread)

Per the DMG, you can only cast spells using a spell slot of levels 6-9 once per long rest each. I would keep that rule since it specifically prevents what you described. Spell points allow the sorcerer to be exactly what their intent is: a versatile blaster who can modify spells on the fly.

D&D General Would You Play This Theme?

It would absolutely depend on the DM and players involved, but also the campaign backstory. If the drow city was destroyed by an invading and the players were survivors forced to escape and survive on their own in the Underdark. Then yes, I would consider it. If it's just drow doing drow...

    D&D 5E (2014) Boosting Sorcerers, Focus: Fun (+thread)

More reason to dump it all and go with Spell Points. The sorcerer is screaming for it but again, WotC got cold feet. It's clear it was their original intention - it's in the DMG.

    D&D 5E (2014) Single race party?

As a possible side campaign recently, my group was discussing an all-dwarf campaign where they decided to give adventuring "a try" so they could raise money to open a brewery. The backstory was that they had been down-on-their-luck, glorified caravan guards and messengers who drink away...

    D&D 5E (2014) Boosting Sorcerers, Focus: Fun (+thread)

Two words: Spell.Points. The biggest problem with the sorcerer is its lack of identity. The warlock has unique mechanics and the wizard has a ton of versatility. The sorcerer is supposed to be the "blaster" but that has fallen by the wayside. The sorcerer's unique ability is metamagic but that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Single race party?

SAME!!! It's one of my favorite "campaigns I really want to run someday." For that specifically, I'd open it up to rogues too but would consider any character concept that would fit the campaign concept (like barbarian strongman, warlock magician, etc).

    D&D 5E (2014) Single race party?

Even better, do same race AND same class: a troupe of halfling bards!

    D&D 5E (2014) Long Rest/HD: I've been doing it wrong

I had a player would could NEVER remember the long rest rules. Every time a long rest came up, I would explain it and he would look at me like I had 2 heads. Not the sharpest tack in the bunch... I like half-HD/long rest. There's plenty of healing in the game so it adds some important resource...

    Great fun. DO EET.

    D&D 5E (2014) Polearm Master + quarterstaff...+ shield?

Well I also think the quarterstaff should be a finesse weapon. Note that has nothing to do with historical accuracy and everything to do with martial arts movies. 🥷

    D&D 5E (2014) Polearm Master + quarterstaff...+ shield?

    Agreed. A one-handed quarterstaff is a club.

D&D 5E (2014) Yet Another Multiclassing Variant (Looking for Feedback)

Yeah, it really works best if the class level progressions are standardized so that all classes get subclass abilities at the same time. I've started working on that too.

D&D 5E (2014) Yet Another Multiclassing Variant (Looking for Feedback)

I absolutely LOVE the idea of multiclassing as subclasses. I've been working on a similar system. I do think it needs a bit more tweaking as opposed to a standardized system but it's a start. As I said in another thread, "don't do it the bad way." Again, it definitely needs some TLC to get it...

D&D 5E (2014) Yet Another Multiclassing Variant (Looking for Feedback)

In 95%+ cases, multiclassing is the poor optimization choice. You lose so much by multiclassing in 5E. The optimal multiclass builds usually involve the paladin and warlock, maybe bard. Just monitor why the player wants to multiclass and you'll be fine. I would also argue that the "optimal"...

D&D 5E (2014) Full feats from Tasha's: are they worth a "full feat slot"?

Overall I like your foundation. I've been working on something similar. I do think it can be accomplished without categorizing feats. The categories give you design rails but as @Don Durito said, it doesn't feel as 5E to me.

D&D 5E (2014) Full feats from Tasha's: are they worth a "full feat slot"?

It's also bad form to reply with the equivalent of "that sucks" and offer no explanation. As a game designer mentor would tell me over and over: "Don't do it the bad way." What you've described is the bad way. Every game system with options will always have options that are "more powerful"...

D&D 5E (2014) Full feats from Tasha's: are they worth a "full feat slot"?

People would be less inclined to use them because they would get more cool stuff for their character? Your logic is flawed.

D&D General what's your favorite starting town?

As a DM, one of my favorite things is introducing the starting town or "home base" to the PCs. I love bringing the town to life and hopefully making the PCs feel connected and a place they want to be. A good map also goes a long way in doing that. Like most of us, my free time is a luxury so...

D&D 5E (2014) Full feats from Tasha's: are they worth a "full feat slot"?

Again, another system that 4E did better in concept (but the execution was over-designed).

D&D 5E (2014) Full feats from Tasha's: are they worth a "full feat slot"?

Re: 4E - Hence why I said "most cases". I agree that 4E had too many "numeric feats", but the feat system itself was much more sound (a feat every other level). The reason why most of the feats in 5E don't get taken is because they simply aren't good enough. The designers designed themselves...
